Rev. Donald Wildmon protests NBC's "The Book of Daniel"
NBC's midseason drama "The Book of Daniel" is about an Episcopal priest hooked on painkillers and having conversations with Jesus. His wife likes booze. His daughter sells drugs. His son is gay.

Now, a conservative "pro-family action site" is urging a protest, sight unseen.

Go figure.

The American Family Association, headed by Rev. Donald Wildmon, is encouraging users of its website to e-mail NBC Universal Chairman Bob Wright to complain about "Daniel" and its plot and message.

.......

"We are told in Hebrews that 'Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever,'" the form letter explains to Wright. "Obviously you don't believe that. It would be beneficial to all if NBC showed a little more respect for Christians who believe the Bible."

19. Isn't that what we've done since the 70's?
and the numbers and volume and insanity grew?

I say CRUSH the psycho fuckers!!!

It's time that rational people refuse to accept religious idiocy and hatred in the name of tolerance.

Tolerance is very good and democratic, but there has to be a limit. These people are mentally ill and should be in institutions.

32. Wildmon probably thought that since the Jesus on the show was white
and with strong Arian features and great teeth, it was an okay program. Must have been one of his minion that actually watched the show.

4. If I remember correctly
Wildmon and his group protested "NYPD Blue" sight unseen as well when it first came on the air. It went on to be a big hit show for ABC due in large part to the curiousity of Americans because of Wildmon's protestations. So perhaps this show will be a huge hit as well. Seems kind of stupid to bitch about something without actually seeing it first. But what do I know, I'm just a simple minded Liberal.

any of my flock who listen to him shall suffer excommunication from MY CHURCH.

So let it be written. So let it be decreed and done.

And I direct my Chancellor to record my edit in the Book of Edicts and publish it on DU as notice to believers.

17. It's not a bad show. I think it has promise.
I really am looking forward to this show. Not to mention, it's filmed in NYC, right over at Silvercup Studios, so that's a plus for the East Coasters.

Anyway, I think it might have legs, it sure does have some money behind it from the things I hear.

20. Wildman Exposed Blockbuster
As the total wimp company they are when they took "The Last Temptations of Christ" off their shelves after he teared up a bit.

I haven't given a nickel to Blockbuster since that day. What has that been 20 years...finally by boycott is taking hold as they are closing stores all over.....maybe not.

Strange thing there is that was a pathetically boring movie. Wildman gave it the only chance it had at filling theaters.

I still fart in the general direction of Blockbuster.

They must have been the local stores that caved. Still, good on you for sticking to principles!

22. Good for them
NBC could give a sh*t less about "jesus", "christian", "pro-family" and who the hell in their right mind believes otherwise. Like all corporate entities, they care about one thing - $$$$$. If they have to throw an old lady under the wheels of a bus, snuff infants in their cribs, and sexualize children at the ripe old age of 5, so be it. More anarchy, not less I say! It's so much easier to prey on people of low standards and convictions, and I for one, revel in it.

24. Yada, yada, yada. Some people think other people shouldn't say, write,
act, draw, paint, sing, eat, or shit in a way incompatible with their beliefs. I think those people need to stop worrying so much about what other people do. This is a recording.

26. There are new sermons about Jesus and new movies
like Mel Gibson's.

Apparently, 'Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever,' only applies to an interpretation Donald Wildmon doesn't like.

28. they were talking about this on....
hannitys radio show today. and what i learned from the conversation is that conservative christians/pundits are out of touch with reality. basically they are upset because the minister has an achololic wife, a gay son, a pot dealing daughter and a son that sleeps with every girl in town.

does that sound fimiliar to anyone? it sounds like todays typical small town america to me, with slight diffrences in who's doing what. but its basically the same.

31. I am very sorry to have to say this,
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 07:43 AM by nathan hale
but I have never known a preacher's family that didn't have its share of life's problems and issues.

It goes with the territory of having a family. And,mirabale dictu! it has nothing to do with belief systems.

Therefore, I agree with you.

........ any one person whose life and death should ever be kept in the front of one's mind and soul it is that of Jesus Christ.

But just between us - I like Him better when He is a baby and we celebrate His birthday every year.

Is Christmas already gone? Oh, well. next year, and - Happy New Year!

35. Rumor Has It
some trivia...just saw the film Rumor Has It and the scenes for the pilot for The Book of Daniel
and the wedding scenes in Rumor Has It were shot at the church being
investigated by the IRS. The priest in the wedding scene is Rector Emeritus
George Regas who gave the sermon under question. A fluffy movie, but
fun for all the Pasadena sites for those who live here...

I'm looking forward to watching The Book of Daniel...glad it's getting
buzz, negative and not.

37. I like the way he tries to bring "authority" into the argument
"We are told in Hebrews that 'Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever,'"

Let's analyze this, shall we?

:bluebox: First off, what's this "we" business? You got a mouse in your pocket, Rev. Wildmon? As an American confronting American practices, I look to our CONSTITUTION for legal authority. You may go back to some chicken scratch written thousands of years ago that your elders SWEAR is the One and Only True Way To Think, Act and Breathe but I don't.

So get rid of the "we" bullshit.

:redbox: Secondly, Jesus hung out with drunks and he never once said a thing about gay people, dime bags or prescription painkillers. So I think he would possibly like the show.

You have no argument. As usual.

Try again ****ding**** :silly:
