Coleman to hold hearing on ports deal
Feb. 21, 2006

http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/mld/ledgerenquirer/news/politics/13927454.htm

WASHINGTON - Sen. Norm Coleman said Tuesday he will hold a hearing next month regarding a deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports.

"I have grave concerns both about the sale of major U.S. ports to a United Arab Emirates company, Dubai Ports World, and the process by which that sale was approved," Coleman said in a prepared statement. "The sale must be held up so Congress can fully review its national security implications."

Coleman, a Minnesota Republican, held a hearing on port security last year before the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, which he chairs. That hearing focused on Government Accountability Office reports that found flaws in two Customs and Border Protection programs.

Coleman said he would request all documents related to the sale of the ports. He added in an interview that he would support legislation to block the deal until Congress has a chance to review it.

1. Amazing! Even Norm "The Weasel" Coleman, who totally owes
his Senate seat to BushCo and has had his nose up Bush's ass for the last 5 years, isn't buying it.

A sign of the Apocalypse?

11. No, don't get excited
It's more than likely to be another whitewash. I'll reserve final judgment on the matter until I see it, but Coleman is SUCH a tool of this administration that I'm not going to automatically believe this is what is APPEARS to be.

13. Nah, he's rattling sabers so that he will look 'concerned' about
National Security! His concern about National Security! will whitewash Bushco's sale. TOOL, is the word I think of when I hear Norm is "concerned."

23. What makes you think we voted him in the first time?
One of the more questionable election results based on exit polls, funny results posted late at night and a SOS who adores K. Harris.

7. Then that's just perfect for Normie.
He can make a gesture that seems to oppose the deal so as to placate the voters, but his actions will be too ineffective to kill the deal, so Bush and Karl won't be too upset.

Somebody else will have to do the heavy lifting. Normie is pretty useless.

8. Coleman is up for election, Bush isn't
I really think this whole thing is just to give the Pukes an issue to run on this year.

19. I imagine the weasel thinks we'll forget about this by 2008
Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 10:01 PM by dflprincess
he's pretending he's concerned - but after he "investigates" the little weasel will announce there's nothing to worry about. And he'll think the voters in Minnesota will either fall for this or forget about it by the time his next campaign rolls around.

I think when this is settled we should start emailing him to investigate all the missing money in Iraq, I'm sure he'll jump right on that. :sarcasm:

I wonder whose butt he'll attach his lips to after Bush is out of office.

EXCLUSIVE:
Cosmetic surgeon brags about his work on Sen. Norm Coleman
Editor's Note: There's now an update on this story—that Coleman may not have paid the dentist until this story first broke in Minnesota on Friday—and is likely in violation of Senate ethics rules.

By John Byrne | RAW STORY EDITOR

A St. Paul cosmetic surgeon has bragged about surgery on Republican senator Norm Coleman (R-MN)—even going so far as posting detailed before and after photographs on his website, RAW STORY has learned.

The surgeon, Frank J. Milnar, DDS, accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry displayed the photographs under the tagline "Enhanced Smiles," and wrote, "Do you deserve a healthy, confident, naturally beautiful smile? Norm Coleman wanted more than an enhanced smile. He wanted peace of mind: lasting, comfortable results."

Below the text, a Flash presentation displays before and after photographs of the senator, with close-ups of his teeth before and after the procedure. The final image in the sequence is of Coleman in his Senate photograph.

Dr. Milnar and Sen. Norm Coleman were unavailable for comment.

Well he does have lots of payback from his election to BushCo. It has always been "how high" when they tell him to jump.

21. This is all about Bush's failure. I would think that people
would get that. No, there's no Republican conspiracy and the Republicans like Coleman are not (that) reluctantly doing this. Granted, there are those who don't want to break with the President but they are breaking en masse anyway because this is such a terrible deal. It's a political no-brainer and it's all Bush's fault. The good news and bad news is the same: the Republicans are breaking away from Bush.

I would argue that it's mostly good news because they're jumping ship but too late to get far enough away from Bush before November.

And for those of you worried it's too late--this thing will not go through. There will be a veto-proof majority aligned and announced before March 1.

It's a thing of beauty. Let's treat it as such.
