Bush Confident Iraq Will Avoid Civil War
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060311/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_iraq

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Saturday he is confident a unified Iraqi government will settle sectarian feuds that Iraqi leaders fear could lead to civil war.

"I'm optimistic that the leadership recognizes that sectarian violence will undermine the capacity for them to self-govern," Bush said after a defense briefing at the White House. "I believe we'll have a unity government in place that will help move the process forward."

Bush denounced any moves by Iran or Syria to interfere in Iraq's effort to build a democracy. The president also said that while Iraq's security forces need more training, they performed well after the Feb. 22 bombing of a Shiite mosque. The attack led to the deaths of hundreds and pushed the country to the brink of civil war between rival Muslim sects.

"There are some people trying to, obviously, foment sectarian violence — some have called it civil war — but it didn't work," Bush said.

He said the U.S. goal is to have Iraqis control more territory than the coalition forces do by the end of the year.

3. I think that's because "sectarian violence" is the substitute terminology.
I've heard them admit to sectarian violence, but not civil war.

I'm not sure if Bush is saying in this sentence that sectarian violence doesn't exist:

..."There are some people trying to, obviously, foment sectarian violence — some have called it civil war — but it didn't work," Bush said.

5. He's been right so far...
It's obvious that he's on top of foreign relations as well as economics, energy policy, enviornment and so much more.

As far as I'm concerned, he's in a better position to know what's going on there, tracking down the 9/11 terrorists, what's more, we know we can trust him to tell us the truth flat out on this most important issue.

And if you couldn't tell, I'm using :sarcasm:

If Vegas was taking odds I'd mortgage my house! This is just about all that I would need to KNOW that Iraq is ALREADY in a civil war and it's going to get much worse...

9. Oh, boy, they're done for sure
Considering how many times Bozo has been correct since he started claiming Saddam and Osama were flying those jets into the Trade Center I'd consider an Iraq Civil War to be an absolute certainty.

We'd better start getting ready to Dunkirk our troops while we can.

12. Please put the crack pipe down, Mr. President.
Gee Dubya has completely lost touch with reality!

The bombing set off the biggest wave of killings
since 2003 and the so-called security forces
have abducted and murdered hundreds.
The Iraqi government is still too disunified
to convene a parliament and the leadership vacuum
is feeding the chaos. This is a civil war.

17. What guru told Bush "I'm confident" repeated ad infinitum would lead to
high poll ratings? That mantra isn't working, Chimpy. Change it. And while you're at it, consider spring cleaning your cabinet. Voters see its innards as a gigantic spider on acid.

we don't know what the f*ck to do. So we're going to go to Iran and start a war there; that should take everyone's mind off Iraq.

22. Gen. Abizaid says Iraq shifting from insurgency to sectarian violence.
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 04:19 PM by NYC
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2156302

...General John Abizaid said tension in Iraq is increasing, and the type of violence is changing.

"There's no doubt that the sectarian tensions are higher than we've seen," he said. "And it is of great concern to all of us. It's my belief that the security situation in the country, while changing in its nature from insurgency toward sectarian violence, is controllable by Iraqi security forces and multi-national forces."

33. Oh please!!! WTF could a US Military GENERAL know better than bush!
BUSH is GAWD! He knows everything and has been 100% correct on every single thing ever!

Iraq had yellowcake (with spice icing) from Niger and nukes (dozens of em, all pointed at us!) and Iraqis love us and their oil has entirely paid for destroying their nation & slaughtering 280,000 Iraqis; it's not cost us a single penny!

GAWD BLESS BUSH!!!

Rightwingnuts; stupidest MFers on the planet. It's that simple.

His only function now as the "war president" is to go around the country fund raising. (that is on our money too)

This man is truly insane. Someone has got to say it to his face and demand he resign. He is crazy.
