Former ambassador urges public dissent

Larimer County Democrats gathered Saturday to celebrate what they're calling a renewed sense of energy in the party.

Former U.S. ambassador Joe Wilson was the keynote speaker at the annual president's day dinner attended by more than 600 Democrats.

In 2002, Wilson discovered reports that Iraq had purchased uranium from Niger to be false, and publicly denounced the Bush administration for using them to call for an invasion of Iraq. Because of his stance, Wilson believes members of the administration leaked the name of his wife, undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame, to the press.

"If there is an object lesson in the experience Valerie and I went through, it is we have an obligation if we are to keep democracy strong to confront government at every level, every step of the way," Wilson told the gathering.

2. Especially when they're messing up in every arena they've
ever entered.
Every voice, and Wilson's is a powerful one, should resonate and collect more voices.

The Politics of Truth is an incredibly interesting read. This man has done far more than the media ever credits to him. His courage and patriotism extend well beyond the current issues- but I bet you already knew that.

He is the kind of person our government needs a whole lot more of.

Former Ambassador to Iraq Presents Debate over the War

Joseph Wilson, former ambassador to Iraq, will visit California State University, Chico on Wednesday, March 22, and present "The Three Great Debates over the War in Iraq."

Wilson's lecture will be held at 7:30 pm in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium.

Wilson was a United States foreign service diplomat between 1976 and 1998. He has achieved recent notoriety from an op-ed essay published in July 2003, in the New York Times, in which he revealed his 2002 trip investigating whether Iraq purchased or attempted to purchase Yellowcake uranium from Niger in the late 1990s. In his op-ed piece, published four months after the start of the war, Wilson accused the Bush administration of exaggerating the Iraqi threat in order to justify war.

Shortly thereafter, Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, was revealed as a CIA agent, prompting a furious political storm in Washington. The affair resulted in a grand jury indictment of Lewis Libby, chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney.

The event is sponsored by A.S. Presents. General admission tickets for $15 are available at the University Box Office, 530-898-6333, and at the door for $17. Students-$10

10. public dissent
I hope that everyone who is responding enthusiastically to this message from Wilson is also standing passionately on their nearby street corner every once in a while to do their part for public dissent.

The energy of the Internets is great -- but we need energy in the streets if we are going to get our complacent neighbors to understand the constitutional crisis facing this country.

For my bona fides on public dissent, I stand on Laramie's 3rd and Grand every Friday afternoon, for three years plus, with my HONK FOR PEACE (and various) signs. Today, I've come home from reading the names of the coalition soldiers killed in Iraq in the University of Wyoming Union.

Tell me about your public dissent, how you are responding or planning to respond to Joe Wilson's call!
