Visibly Angry Berlusconi Fights for Job (Jesus of Politics)

<snip>

Fighting to keep his job in an election this weekend, he has compared himself to the legendary British prime minister, saying: "I fight communism the way Churchill fought against Nazism."

Of his 5-year-old government's accomplishments, he claims: "Only Napoleon did more."

Explaining his difficulties with prosecutors and media he contends are cozy with the left, he calls himself "the Jesus Christ of politics," patient and sacrificing.

Suffering too, the 69-year-old Berlusconi might have added.

President Bush's ally in the Iraq war leads a conservative coalition that has been trailing in opinion polls to a center-left bloc which includes communists.

For a man used to calling the shots at a business empire that includes Italy's three main private TV networks plus publishing, insurance, advertising, real estate and sports interests, the threat of losing the Sunday-Monday election has put him in a visibly bad mood.

.... he sounds more insane than the chimp!

1. Someone needs to remind him what happened to Napoleon
I would be careful in using that comparison if I were him

4. "Berlusconi still has a friend in the WH"

...."He's a candidate who feels defeat coming closer, but more than that, he feels isolated by his allies, who have distanced themselves from him," said Marzia Antenore of Mediamonitor, a political communications research group at Rome's La Sapienza University.

But Berlusconi still has a friend in the White House. Last month, Bush praised him for bringing "stability" to Italy, where until about a decade ago, many governments didn't make it beyond a year.

5. I can see this happening here--Bush withdrawing some troops in the nick
of time.

...Berlusconi's invitation to the White House was widely seen as a reward for bucking the tide in continental Europe and sending troops to Iraq, something Prodi opposed.

The soldiers are being slowly pulled out, with complete withdrawal by year's end, an approach first advocated by Prodi. In a debate with Berlusconi on Monday, Prodi left himself leeway to act even sooner, saying that if elected he would withdraw the troops "as soon as possible," security conditions permitting.

Visibly Angry Berlusconi Fights for Job

By FRANCES D'EMILIO
Associated Press Writer

ROME -- As Italy's richest man and leader of its longest-serving government since World War II, Premier Silvio Berlusconi tends to identify himself with history's movers and shakers. Like Winston Churchill, Napoleon and Jesus Christ.

Fighting to keep his job in an election this weekend, he has compared himself to the legendary British prime minister, saying: "I fight communism the way Churchill fought against Nazism."

12. Wow! the resemblance to Hitler by dimson is erie!
He needs the haircut. And Berlusconi needs that stupid pout on his face. Other than that, these two fit right in.

13. What an ego monster. His problem is he can't be dicatator
in a country with honest elections.

Of course neither could dimwit.

17. Madness of a certain sort is the sine qua non of fascism
Looks like Berlusconi has it in spades.

Hopefully, he can be prosecuted for war crimes once he's a private citizen again.
