4. task force
But we need to see the papers concerning his energy plan in this country. He must be made to turn over those papers. I think that will be another "smoking gun."

Cheney Task Force Had Eyes on Iraq Oil

By H. JOSEF HEBERT
Associated Press Writer
Posted July 18 2003, 6:16 PM EDT

WASHINGTON -- Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force appeared to have some interest in early 2001 in Iraq's oil industry, including which foreign companies were pursuing business there, according to documents released Friday by a private watchdog group.

Judicial Watch, a conservative legal group, obtained a batch of task force-related Commerce Department papers that included a detailed map of Iraq's oil fields, terminals and pipelines as well as a list entitled "Foreign Suitors of Iraqi Oilfield Contracts."

The papers also included a detailed map of oil fields and pipelines in Saudi Arabia and in the United Arab Emirates and a list of oil and gas development projects in those two countries.

The papers were dated early March 2001, about two months before the Cheney energy task force completed and announced its report on the administration's energy needs and future energy agenda.<more>

3. Cheney if loyal to Halliburton before the US
He should be impeached and tried for fraud against the US government. Families of dead servicement should sue him.

5. This Is Quite Interesting
It is not proof that invasion of Iraq was planned at that time, but it is certainly something that could be useful in supporting such an allegation.

6. Faux News' version (with spin):
Cheney Energy Task Force Documents Detail Iraqi Oil Industry

snip>

"Opponents of the war are going to point to the documents as evidence that oil was on the minds of the Bush administration in the run-up to the war in Iraq," said Fitton. "Supporters will say they were only evaluating oil reserves in the Mideast, and the likelihood of future oil production."

The task force report was released in May 2001. In it, a chapter titled "Strengthening Global Alliances" calls the Middle East "central to world oil security" and urges support for initiatives by the region's oil producers to open their energy sectors to foreign investment. The chapter does not mention Iraq, which has the world's second largest oil reserves after Saudi Arabia.

Commerce Department spokesman Trevor Francis said: "It is the responsibility of the Commerce Department to serve as a commercial liaison for U.S. companies doing business around the world, including those that develop and utilize energy resources. The Energy Task Force evaluated regions of the world that are vital to global energy supply. The final report, released in May of 2001, contains maps of key energy-producing regions in the world, including Russia, North America, the Middle East and the Caspian region."

7. I wonder if
there were as many detailed plans and thoughts on alternative energy sources as there were Iraqi sources of oil. I hope someone asks that question.

8. This is HUGE. As the Bushees try to back up the....
...intelligence by releasing some of the NIE, this information gets released, giving us one thing we DESPERATELY need....PROOF of a MOTIVE. With a motive, the picture becomes MUCH more clear what has been going on.....
Can I get a HALLELUJAH!!!? This is GREAT, totally offsetting, in fact far surpassing, any impact the NIE has had. THIS NEEDS TO BE TALKED ABOUT!

11. Very Damaging Headline
The worm has definitely turned, i think its safe to say several "factions" want Sneering Dick to resign.

Maybe slapping the CIA around, outing Mrs Wilson, wasnt such a brilliant move ?

15. Hi short bus president!
Welcome to DU!

:hi:

I completely agree, I'd love to see it hit the networks tomorrow. I think this is getting traction. Like a lot of DUers, I emailed my local paper about this last night, and I'm happy to see that they just picked it up about an hour ago. This will be big, and if nothing else, the misAdministration will certainly be doing frantic damage control Sunday!

BTW, I LOVE your pic! So hilarious, and yet, so sad.

16. thanks for the welcome,
but I'm actually an old timer (WhataBildeberger) with a new e-mail acccount and thus a new screenname.

Will be very interesting to see if this gets media play tomorrow. If there's one thing you can count on from Klayman, it's his group's media savvy. I expect they're doing what they can to get noticed. They have a decent shot at making more headlines out of this.

18. If there is a God, this will be big.
They carved up Iraq's oil fields in March of 2001, six months before 9/11.

Please let the dim befuddled public be able to understand what this means.

21. The real key
Is not WHAT they did but WHO THEY ARE. Who were the major players in these meetings?

I can see the Bushcos worming out of this and calling it a million different ways but it all depends on the players. Was there someone in those meetings that "doesn't fit"?
