Nevada's cyber-security chief charged with embezzlement

He's the local Homeland Security yokel.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Randy Potts, chief of security for Nevada's Department of Information Technology, has been charged with theft, embezzlement and falsifying records. The Nevada Attorney General's Office began an investigation after Potts filed claims seeking $1,757 in reimbursement for expenses incurred while attending a homeland security conference last year in Denver.

According to the criminal complaint issued Thursday, Potts obtained permission to attend the four-day conference that began last Nov. 29 after submitting a flier about it to department Director Terry Savage.

<snip>

Potts is accused of falsifying information in his request to attend the conference and of altering the date on the flier submitted to Savage. Potts has been on administrative leave since the formal investigation began in March. Potts has worked for the department for about three years, and has done an excellent job improving cyber-security for state agencies, Savage said.

Savage said he would talk with the attorney general's office to determine what course of action he would take concerning Potts' job future.

"I hope to resolve that issue next week," Savage told the Nevada Appeal.

When questioned about the expenses, Potts submitted a two-page memo citing meetings with Colorado's chief information security officer and the Colorado Information Management Commission.

But the memo did not mention anything about the homeland security meeting he used to justify the trip in the first place, Savage said. The money approved to pay for the trip came from a federal homeland security grant designated for use only on homeland security awareness training.

3. NV DoIT was corrupt, poorly managed and a technological
nightmare long before * came into office.

It's been rife with cronyism, technological incompetence, short-sightedness, poor management and corruption for many years.

The only way * is mildly involved in this is the freaking Homeland Security bs.

6. Oh, yeah. He pissed in someone's Wheaties - no doubt
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea of DoIt and security in the same sentence. Not bloody likely.

7. Anyone have suspicions about this at all?
I don't know anything about Potts or this agency, but I do know that the Bush junta took down CA Dem Secretary of State Kevin Shelley on completely bogus corruption charges, after he sued the Bushite electronic voting company, Diebold, and decertified the worst of their election theft machines prior to the 2004 election. A real, honest to God "swift-boating."

I have been suspicious and skeptical ever since, of any corporate news monopoly-promulgated "corruption" charges. I don't think we can be sure who the criminals are any more. I worry about blackmail, and about potential whistleblowers--say, people guilty of some minor offense (like fudging a travel bill's date) being targeted because they've been witness to something far worse, and can't be trusted not to disclose it. Or people getting set up, with black ops, with false documents.

So I simply do NOT jump to conclusions, on the basis of allegations printed in the corporate press. We simply DON'T KNOW what this is really about. And even if someone is embedded in an agency or a situation that is known for ineptness or corruption or Bushite connections, we DON'T KNOW what's happening NOW, with this individual. These BIG TIME criminals in Washington DC are SPYING ON EVERYBODY. We have to fully realize what that means. And if you are in any position to foil their plans, or to expose their crimes, you can be sure they have a dossier on you, and are prepared to ruin you if they need to. This would be especially true, I think, for anyone involved in "cyber security." It also could be industrial war play and sabotage (i.e., getting contracts).

Our government is being RUN by mobsters--into the biggest cash box on earth. Don't put anything past them. And don't believe ANYTHING you read in the corporate newsstream. It is NOT reliable any more, even on basic facts.
