Dean takes Democrats' grassroots campaign to Orange County (CA)
And I notice he is very clear on the immigration issue, clearest I have seen. He said Democrats needed to take their message to all areas, and he is doing that.

SANTA ANA, Calif. - If Democrats start knocking on your door to pitch their beliefs, thank Howard Dean. The Democratic National Committee chairman, in Santa Ana for a reception Tuesday evening, is trying to remake the party into a grassroots organization to better reach out to voters - including those in Republican strongholds like Orange County.

"I can't think of a better place to build (the party) than Orange County," Dean said in a phone interview shortly before the Democratic Foundation of Orange County event, which was closed to the press.

"(The county) has a reputation of being conservative, but even conservatives don't like corruption. So some people might consider us. . . . We have a chance if we stand up and say what we believe."

And I like the explanation on the immigration issue. Clear and concise.

Outlining differences in the major parties, Dean pointed to immigration. He said that if, as he expects, Democrats take control of Congress after this year's elections, they will push for more border-security personnel to be hired. And they'll push for a path to citizenship for those now in the country.

What most Democrat officials do not back is Bush's guest-worker plan, he said.

"We don't need to bring any more workers in," he said.

2. I liked his straightest straight talk about Sen Jefferson
(This past Sunday, w/ Geo Stephanopoulos)

If he's indicted, should he resign?

Ans: YES

Yea Howard!!!!!!!!!!

3. That was about as clear as you can get.
That was a shocker to the interviewer, I think.

4. Well, this is welcomed news for those
of us here in OC who have tried to break the GOP stronghold for years. I'll try to find a way to help them if I can. Protesting with Code Pink every week is good, but there is so much more we can do. I can feel the change here, especially in the last year. No time to stop!:hi:

5. Well, good luck to you. Our area is so Republican.
It is even more discouraging now, since I have been working the voter database for our precinct. I guess it really hit me how really Republican it was, so we have our work cut out for us. It is all we can do to get Democrats in our precinct off their butts to be active, but the rest of the county is having a little better luck. So that is encouraging.

7. Thanks for the work you are doing. It all helps
I'll tell you honestly, I was very nervous when I started protesting. I've been doing it for almost a year now and the insults were pretty awful at first. Amazing how graphic some people can be. The shame of it is having some parents of Iraqi soldiers having to hear it.
But now, we hardly get any insults at all and a lot more honks. If it can happen here, we may have a chance.

8. I once got up and walked out of a restaurant in Anaheim
in the middle of a meal without paying because I saw a picture of the owner and staff with Ronald Reagan behind the register. Told 'em I was insulted by the picture behind the register. Orange County seems to be pretty red.
