NYT: Abramoff Visits in White House Logs Are Linked to Rove and a Budget
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/11/washington/11abramoff.html

By PHILIP SHENON
Published: May 11, 2006

WASHINGTON, May 10 — Newly disclosed White House visitor logs involving the lobbyist Jack Abramoff refer to a 2001 visit in which Mr. Abramoff talked with Karl Rove, President Bush's top political adviser, about hiring two people for jobs at the Interior Department, a Bush administration official said Wednesday night.

The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the Justice Department's continuing investigation of Mr. Abramoff's illegal lobbying, said that neither person got a job at the Interior Department, an agency of special interest to Mr. Abramoff because of his multimillion lobbying work on behalf of Indian tribe gambling operations.

Two other administration officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of rules that generally bar them from speaking to reporters, said the White House had decided that the settlement of the lawsuit did not require other, more complete visitor logs to be made public.

They said the more complete logs, known within the White House as Waves records, an acronym for the Workers Appointments and Visitors Entry System, would have identified the other visits by Mr. Abramoff.

14. Yep: look for the CR ties
The College Republicans are a corrupt organization. Following the CR links will let you know who the really dirty players are.

I know: I was one, and I learned to fight dirty and take no prisoners under Chairman Atwater. I however, had enough of a conscience and a brain to, eventually, figure out right from wrong. The rest of them are still stuck in adolescence, gloating over how they can undermine democracy in the name of the Republican party.

5. Maybe visitors' records tied to Rove weren't disclosed?
Perhaps it was on someone else's log or (or with someone else's credentials) that the visits to the WH occurred?

6. Typical
"The White House had decided that the settlement of the lawsuit did not require other, more complete visitor logs to be made public." So they are going to break the law again.

8. Yes
They just arbitrarily decide which laws are valid and which aren't. Sickening and arrogant.

10. more WH cherrypicking at work - selective release of records
Last paragraph of the NYT piece: "The conservative group that sought the logs in the lawsuit, Judicial Watch, which has often championed open-government causes, suggested that it might return to court. The group's president, Tom Fitton, said the White House had decided to "cherry-pick the information."

11. the White House already knows Judicial Watch is returning to
court....that's where domestic wire-tapping comes in so handy. Gives government a chance to purge pesky records.

12. We've looked and we looked and this is all we can find.
Two hundred visits and this is all they can find? Also Jeff Gannon was coming and staying overnight or longer and no one has any records of Jeff signing out.

When Monica Lewinsky came to the White House for a visit there were triple records for every breath she took.

13. We should keep Jeff Gannon's name involved in this story especially since
we never got the full story.

16. Yeap...The ole Cultural of Corruption.
I wonder what these crooks teach their children. "It's ok to steal that candy bar and soda from the store...Daddy will pass a law making it ok for 5 year old children of Republican's to steal candy and soda's from any store". :spank:
