Edwards in Iowa, bolstered by new poll
Updated: 6/12/2006 12:05 PM
By: Associated Press

BETTENDORF, Iowa -- Heartened by a solid showing in an early poll of potential Democratic presidential candidates, former Sen. John Edwards vowed to repeat an intense grass roots campaign which landed him on the Democratic ticket in the last election cycle.

"I had my 53rd birthday yesterday and it's a nice gift to know that we still have friends in Iowa," Edwards said.

In a poll published by The Des Moines Register, Edwards was favored by 30 percent of those questioned. Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack faired poorly in his own state when matched against other potential Democratic presidential candidates, drawing support from only 10 percent of those surveyed in new poll, good enough for fourth behind Edwards, New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, at 26 percent, and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, at 12 percent.

1. I want Edwards to be our 2008 president.

I think he has great potential to unify the party and the public behind him.

His youth - like JFK's was, is a plus in my opinion.

3. Also
I know people here really dislike her but I think Feinstein would be strong as a presidential candidate or VP candidate as well..

6. Ditto! I'm psyched Edwards beat Clinton in the pre-straw poll.
Now maybe we've heard enough about Clinton the Frontruner and Presumptive Candidate.

There are a whole lot of Dems who don't want a candidate who is going to require extensive rehabilitation before she can compete with some random Repug.

7. I'd much rather have most anybody than Hillary.
Edwards is a good man and I would proudly vote for him. Ditto several others, including Al Gore, John Kerry and Wes Clark. If Hillary won the nomination I would hold my nose and vote for her, but she isn't the best candidate, not by a long shot.

9. His biggest liability is his ONE term in the Senate. The enemy will
beat that into the ground mercilessly. I think he should be a vice-pres first, then president.

10. I disagree
His short term in office gives them less voting record to beat him with.

11. Good point. The fact that his efforts since the election have been
directed at fighting poverty won't hurt him either.

Edited on Mon Jun-12-06 08:53 PM by QuestionAll
i'll consider voting for him.

until then, i just consider him another of their toadies- he wouldn't have ended up on the ballot with kerry otherwise.

17. it's mostly the "former" members i worry about.
from now on, i'd rather vote for an actual repuke than a pretend democrat.

when the pendulum swings back our way, i don't want it stopping in the center.

21. One NO vote for Edwards
We need tort reform. Edwards made his money ripping off
insurance companies. Since he's apparently good at that, leave
him there.

27. Tort "reform" is the *last* thing this country needs. Insurance companies
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 02:38 PM by w4rma
are making record profits right now by making it as tough as possible for claimants to actually receive the claims they paid for. With tort "reform" it makes it much harder for customers to actually get the money owed them.

These insurance companies try to move their costs to everyone else except themselves, including the medical doctors who they lie to by blaming rising rates on things other than wanting higher and higher profit margins.

24. My "No" for Edwards is the same as for Kerry and Gore...
Until they can publicly identify and acknowledge what they did wrong the last time and explain what they're going to do differently this time, I'm not signing up.

Enough of this go-go-goodhair shit. John Edwards is a DLC schmuck with a more marketable appearance than Lieberman. Fuck him.
