Heart Risk Tied To Losing Job: Study: People Over 50 Have More Risk Of Hea
Study: People Over 50 Have More Risk Of Heart Attack, Stroke After Job Loss

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/06/21/health/webmd/main1738006.shtml

(WebMD) Losing your job at any age can be stressful, but being laid off late in life might come with double the stroke and heart attack risk.

A study of more than 4,000 people over 10 years shows those who lost their jobs after age 50 were twice as likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke as their peers who weren't let go.

William T. Gallo, Ph.D., and his fellow researchers at Yale University say this stroke and heart attack risk is about the same even when other stroke and heart risk factors including obesity, smoking, high blood pressure, and diabetes are accounted for.

Twofold Stroke, Heart Attack Risk

To reach their conclusion, they looked at data from the first 10 years of the National Institute on Aging's Health and Retirement Survey, studying 4,301 people who were 51-61 years old when the survey began in 1992.

2. Been there done that.
Job went to China after 17 years in the industry.

Internet interview and resume went great. Loved the experience, the industry contacts and knowledge of existing projects.

Phone interviews went great. District manager referred me to VP of sales. Both raved about the report and presence. Need to see me.

Met the Prez of sales at the air port. Showed up with grey hair. Interview lasted three minutes.

We'll call you . . .

3. Especially since they lose their health care with the job.
In a country run like a corporation, I guess this is how you fire your citizens.

4. It's a no-brainer..
Loss of job, means loss of affordable health insurance for most people...loss of identity for men , especially...loss of college for their kids (who are usuallly at that age for a 50-something Dad)...

Stress is a killer..

So when corporations decide to "cut costs", they might be kinder to just shoot the "old ones"..at least then their families could collect the life insurance before they have to drop coverage since they cannot afford premiums..:sarcasm:
