2. Spillane was the first writer I was addicted to...
Mike Hammer was followed by Travis McGee (John D. MacDonald), Spenser Robert Parker) and various characters from Elmore Leonard.

Wonderful writers all.

3. rip mr. spillane
i remember when hurricane hugo destroyed his home and a manuscript he was working on, he said with crusty aplomb that he was not concerned, that he'd just hammer out another manuscript in a few weeks time

7. Good film
I even liked Mickey Spillane the actor, when he played Mike Hammer in "The Girl Hunters". Some people don't like the film because Spillane's acting was a bit rough. But I thought it gave it a realistic edge. At least it was interesting to see the writer play one of his characters in a feature film.

8. One of my neighbors in Murrell's Inlet, SC. back in
the day. An underappreciated writer. he loved the low country of SC just like I do.

10. no one accused the old boy of being politically astute
all we're saying is that he gave us a little pleasure in this wicked world

and i did like his attitude when he lost his manuscript, instead of going "oh woe, this great work is forever lost," he shrugged it off and pointed out that many others had lost much more in the storm...he had a gruff courage in face of adversity if nothing else
