Somali Islamists declare holy war against Ethiopia
Somalia's powerful Islamic council has vowed a "holy war" against neighbouring Ethiopia, which has moved troops into its lawless neighbouring state to protect its weak transitional government from a feared Islamist advance.

And as hundreds of people demonstrated in the capital in support of the Islamists, hardline Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys said Somalia will not condone further incursions from Ethiopia.

"The Somali people have to fight against Ethiopia, this is a holy war in which we are defending our country," Aweys said on a nationwide local radio, speaking from his native Galgudud region in central Somalia.

7. Ethiopia is in the wrong on this...
Ehthiopia, especially the dominant Amhara group, has been for decades a "little imperialist" in the region, crushing the Eritreans, attacking the Somalians. Ethiopia began this latest incident with its threats against Somalia's sovereignty. Somalia is in the right to resist at full force, whether under religious banners or not.

10. What Somali sovereignty?
There is effectively no Somali government. No one runs the place, just a bunch of warlords and religious nuts. Ethiopia is going tin to protect the powerless Transitional Government, which needs to establish authority if Somalia is ever going to fall under any half decent leadership. Ethiopia's previous track record is far from perfect, but I'd take them over religious nuts who kill people for watching the World Cup.
