Arizona Shootings Described by Suspect as ‘Random Recreational Violence’
NYT: Arizona Shootings Described as ‘Recreational’
By PAUL GIBLIN
Published: August 6, 2006

(The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms)
Wal-Mart cameras showed Dale S. Hausner pushing a cart.

PHOENIX, Aug. 5 — Two men arrested Friday in a yearlong series of shootings went on late-night joy rides through the city and its suburbs shooting people in what court papers called “random recreational violence.”

The police booked the suspects, Dale S. Hausner, 33, and Samuel J. Dieteman, 30, late Friday on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder and 14 counts of attempted first-degree murder. They were denied bail....

***

The two are suspected in shootings that killed 6 and wounded 18 and in fires at two Wal-Mart stores.

Court documents said a resident told the police that Mr. Dieteman was responsible for drive-by shootings.

“Dieteman would drive through the cities selecting random targets which he referred to as ‘RV,’ random recreational violence,” the resident said, according to the probable cause statement used to hold the suspects....

1. Recreational violence?! How are those 2 words even allowed
in the same sentence?!

Someone please explain to me how this type of "human" comes into existence. Please.

3. Dick Cheney shot a guy in the face while hunting. That could also
be described as "recreational violence".

I think "recreational violence" is one of those conservative, republican, freeper kinds of thing that we Democrats just can't understand.

5. Those canned hunts
cam be described as recreational violence, too.

Canned hunts are not in the same category as what these two scumbags were doing. I still hate the idea. FWIW, we hunt on our own property.

...in the asses of bullfrogs, throwing them in the air, just to watch them explode? What these two low-lifes did with a shotgun to homeless people the neo-con's do to entire nations with the Pentagon.

7. GOP to blame. Asylums cut in half. Nuts on the loose as a result
Edited on Sun Aug-06-06 04:20 AM by oscar111
in my epal's home state, he said a news report said that beds in their state asylum for the criminally insane ... CI.. were cut in half since 'eighty.

taxcuts for the rich... equal service cuts.

toss the CI out, and they commit the horrors you see on the evening news daily.

BLAME THE GOP.... they don't treat the CI, they dont lock them up.

The needed funds for treatment are now rolling around in the form of Rolls Royces.

who exist only to hoot down any mention that their fetish object ought to be more tightly regulated....

For a hilarious example of this, check out this thread from post 193 on.,...

21. Yes, there was no random violence before video games.
I've drunk a lot of beer in my life, yet never made an anti-Semitic comment.
I've played a lot of Grand Theft Auto games, yet never shot anyone.
I've watched a lot of Faux news, yet have never worn a white sheet.
I've shot a lot of guns, yet have never been particularly prone to shooting people.

I think our tendency, as rational beings, when facing pure evil, is to try and find a rational reason. But sometimes there's no cause, or reason, or explanation, other than an almost incomprehensible state of what could best be called "evil."

Sometiems there's just not a good reason.

Then there's the logical fallacy: did they play violent video games because the were already violent, or did violent video games make them violent? Since random violence existed well before video games...

19. I surely hope their cell mates don't have the same attitude
Wouldn't that be awful if these poor fellows were locked up decades with large, mean, psychotic cell mates who believed that random recreational violence was a good personal credo? I mean, imagine poor Mr. Hausner and poor Mr. Dieteman incarcerated for 10 years, 20 years, or even for the rest of their natural lives having to be fearful for their personal safety at all times and in all situations?

That would just be horrible, wouldn't it?
