Poll Says Bush's Approval Is on the Rise
http://wtop.com/?sid=2445&nid=116

President Bush's standing with the public has improved since his surprise Thanksgiving trip to Iraq amid signs of a stronger economy and following congressional passage of a prescription drug benefit under Medicare.

Bush's job approval was at 61 percent in the National Annenberg Election Survey conducted the four days after the holiday, up from 56 percent during the four days before Thanksgiving. Disapproval of the president dropped from 41 percent to 36 percent, according to the poll released Tuesday.

Bush visited the troops in Baghdad on Thanksgiving _ a move that even won praise from political opponents.

2. what the heck poll is that?
56% was even higher than any other poll. He might get a bounce but I don't see him back in the 60's.

4. I'm thinking that WTOP might have a right wing slant
It IS on AM radio, after all. But it's only news, weather, and traffic. The guy who reported it has done editorial pieces that were decidedly right slanted in the past. Maybe he snuck this crap in.

Still, any poll that supports this coke head, and gets reported, will help get him reelected.

14. Why would you say that?

I mean, just because their political commentator is Cal Thomas? :)

...feature Brit Hume regularly. I thought maybe they were part of Clear Channel but they are not. Same political slant though.

20. Cal Thomas is one of the most
ignorant people in newsprint. We get contaminated by him in our local paper every now and again. He's generally dead wrong on everything he opens his mouth about.

3. This pisses me off
I heard this on the radio this morning, and it felt like a blow to my gut. It feels like Bush might get reelected when you see things like this.

Bush is a photo op whore. He did it on 9-11, he did it in his flight suit saying 'Mission Accomplished', and he did it again wearing a 1st Armored Division uniform on turkey day.

I thought that we could turn this back against him, like we did with the flight suit thing, but the American people are too damn stupid. We're going to get the president we deserve.

Yes, I'm having a bad day!! x(

13. "the American people are too damn stupid"
This is exactly the kind of fodder that Rush and the rest of the Right really get off on! You're elitist "blame the masses" rhetoric can only hurt any Democratic candidate.

8. It's just bounce from the Baghdad boogie.
And we're being lied to about the economy. Reminds me of the Reagan years, "Amalgamated Sapaticker announced that it's closing its East Overshoe plant, layoffing 500 union workers. Wall Street reacted positively with higher prices for shares of Amagamated Sapaticker stock."

BTW PepsiCo just gave a Christmas bonus to it's Louisville workers.
" PepsiCo Inc. plans to cut 750 jobs and close a snack manufacturing plant in Louisville as part of a plan to streamline its snack food and beverage operations.
The maker of Pepsi, Gatorade and Tropicana drinks and Frito-Lay snacks also said Tuesday it was reaffirming its earnings outlook for 2003 and expects double-digit growth in earnings per share in 2004."

9. Annenberg . . .
funded by the Annenberg millions . Walter Anneberg was the media magnate who was a famously generous donor and supporter of republican causes. He was Nixon's ambassador to UK. Annenberg also donated millions to telecom departments and universities including USC. so what d'ya expect from this poll any way?

11. Yeah this stupid poll was discussed yesterday....
One poll means nothing...the polls said Bush would win the pop. vote in 2000 too. Guess they blew that call!

General trends are all that matters. One poll does not make a general trend, not even close.

17. "The mass of Americans" aren't stupid -- they didn't elect Bu$h;
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 12:24 PM by Vitruvius
they defeated him by 560,000 votes -- despite Jeb's Florida voter purge that wrongfully denied nearly 100,000 people the right to vote against his brother.

Add to that the effect of similar Rethug purges in TN and elsewhere, plus Rethug voting machine games nationwide, and the actual margin may well have been in excess of a million votes.

The SYSTEM is stupid -- and rigged. Not the majority of the people. Let's treat the stupid minority that votes Rethug as what they are -- a stupid & deluded minority of sheep, not the majority.

18. who's changing their mind all the time?
SOMEONE is reversing their previous polled opinions of the pretzeldent based on photo-ops like the egg raid on bagdhad.

what kind of person is this? it can't be someone who is paying attention.

unfortunately, their vote counts the same as mine.

19. I think the key is "What are we doing to communicate *'s
failings to the public?"

Is everyone writing Letters to the Editor, on a regular basis, about the various issues that are harming people as a result of actions from the Bush administration?

This article alone could be used to explain how people's health, and their children's development, are being damaged by policies of the * administration. If people see enough of this from us, it adds to the articles that are being published by reporters and may open some eyes. After all, even if they like * personally, they may not vote for him because of these policies. Don't fight the person here, fight the policies!

So, let's be part of getting the word out instead of waiting for someone else to do it.

White House, EPA Move To Ease Mercury Rules
More Flexible Enforcement System Sought

By Eric Pianin
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, December 3, 2003; Page A01

The Bush administration is working to undo regulations that would force power plants to sharply reduce mercury emissions and other toxic pollutants, according to a government document and interviews with officials.
...
Until recently, the EPA was on track to issue new rules this month requiring the nation's 1,100 coal- and oil-fired power plants to install equipment to achieve the maximum possible reductions in mercury and nickel emissions, which can cause severe neurological and developmental damage in humans.
...
Environmental leaders yesterday called the administration's efforts a huge favor to the utility industry. They predicted that courts will eventually overturn the decision but said the industry meanwhile could postpone for years significantly reducing mercury emissions.

"It looks as if the administration is going totally in the tank with the utility industry, in a flat-out violation of the law," said David Hawkins of the Natural Resources Defense Council. "We know this stuff is bad for kids, but they don't care."
