Iraq is 'cause celebre' for extremists (says declassified report)
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 04:35 PM by deadparrot
WASHINGTON - A declassified government intelligence report says the war in Iraq has become a "cause celebre" for Islamic extremists, breeding deep resentment of the U.S. that is likely to get worse before it gets better.

In the bleak report, released Tuesday on President Bush's orders, the nation's most veteran analysts conclude that despite serious damage to the leadership of al-Qaida, the threat from Islamic extremists has spread both in numbers and in geographic reach.

"If this trend continues, threats to U.S. interests at home and abroad will become more diverse, leading to increasing attacks worldwide," the document says. "The confluence of shared purpose and dispersed actors will make it harder to find and undermine jihadist groups."

Bush ordered a declassified version of the classified report released after several days of criticism sparked by portions that were leaked. Asked about those Tuesday, Bush said critics who believe the Iraq war has worsened terrorism are naive and mistaken.

10. Yes, I cannot believe they actually released this part of the report
If this is the stuff they released, the pages they did not release must be horrific.

11. This is the first NIE since the one
that revealed Valerie Plame's ID.

Bush is just trying to prove that he declassifies NIE's all the time.

Good thing they don't do them very often I suppose?

7. this exec. summary is devestating.

....Bush and his top advisers had said the broad assessment on global terrorism supported their arguments that the world is safer. But more than three pages of stark judgments warning about the spread of terrorism contrasted with the administration's glass-half-full declarations.

16. Tonights newscast
You watch the nightly newscasts tonight focus on how Condie brushed back Bill and try to discount this report, they always try to show both sides of a debate even when there isn't one.

19. By tomorrow they'll be claiming that the report says...
Al Qaeda has been crippled and Chimpie has become a hero throughout the Muslim world. In spite of the clear evidence of the war's success, "some people" falsely claim that the NIE says the war increased the number of terrorists, but the report clearly says it ain't so and Clinton's penis is lying again. All the networks will say that the report clearly favors Bushco's position, most people will believe it's just another case of he said she said, and Faux viewers will wonder why Dems wanted to declassify a report that so conclusively proves that they're wrong, but I guess that just proves again how stupid they are. Tony Snow will be spinning so fast that all gyroscopes within 30 miles of DC will be knocked off center. And they'll get away with it because most people won't read the report itself and will believe whatever convenient lie makes them feel good.

18. What report, this is incomplete you ass hole
Where in the fuck are the rest of the pages to this so called report. Just because our screwed up dumb ass president is illiterate doesn't mean we are. We want to see it all. In fact anything you feel that only our elected congressmen should read belongs to us.
Either release the whole report or you'll pay for it at the polls.

20. Another reason we have to get Dems in Power in '06 and '08
I want to get all these reports from the Repuke administrations declassified-Reagan, Bush 41 and 43. Remember this from '03?

President Bush refused on Tuesday to release a congressional report alleging possible links between Saudi Arabian officials and the Sept. 11 hijackers. The White House sought to question a Saudi citizen who befriended two of the hijackers.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/07/30/world/main565782.shtml

And I want to read what Bush/Cheney and Clinton had to say to the 9-11 commission.

22. Selective declassification... and spin...
won't make this go away. This is what every credible expert said would happen, what every thoughtful informed progressive predicted, and now we have it confirmed by the NIE. Our invasion and occupation of Iraq has increased terrorism, and become a breeding ground of a new generation of terrorists with no end in sight. Either the neocons wanted this to happen, or the are just fukn incompetent. How can Bush claim the 16 independent agencies consensus is "wrong" or disagree with it? it's not up for discussion chimpy!.. This is just amazing bold-faced new-speak idiocy. It smells like burning throw-up poo-poo

23. Can anyone 'splain to me how the declassification makes
Dear Leader look any better in the eyes of the world? It's my impression that he postured and blustered and when he was done realized he'd have to release something and since it was all bad, let out what was least bad. The Democrats thank you.
