Senate race is costliest ever

WASHINGTON - Three weeks before Election Day, spending in the race between incumbent U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson and challenger Pete Ricketts is racing full-throttle past $20 million - some $19 for every registered voter.

The latest federal campaign reports, released Monday, show the campaign to be the costliest Senate race in Nebraska history.

"I think people are aware of it, and they're not happy about it," University of Nebraska-Lincoln political scientist John Hibbing said of the spending.

"It is hard not to look at that and not think that money could be spent in a more useful fashion," he said.

is this for real. sheesssssh. what a complete waste! it's like Katherine Harris spending $10 million to run in FL. The people that before her have that crazy look in their eye like they've drank too much kool-aid.
