Crist ad blitz links opponent to Castro

MIAMI — In August, Republican Charlie Crist launched an ad condemning his primary opponent, Tom Gallagher, for running a 1994 campaign commercial linking Jeb Bush and Fidel Castro.

On Thursday, Crist, the Republican candidate for governor, started running his own ad featuring the Cuban dictator and linking him to Democrat Jim Davis.

Attorney General Crist reinforced the ad, which was paid for by the Republican Party of Florida, with visits to Hispanic communities in Orlando and Miami on Thursday. He told large, enthusiastic crowds that Davis was wrong when he visited the communist island in 2003.

Davis, the first Florida congressman to visit the island, has said he did not see Castro during the trip.

The 30-second ad is a Spanish-language commercial being broadcast only in South Florida. The ad features Republican Mel Martinez, the first Cuban native elected to the U.S. Senate.

He is spending 2 or 3 times as much money as Davis, yet they are practically tied in the polls. I work at a local station and the ads are getting worse and worse for all the candidates. Everyone in the office is shocked that they are tied. The Foley factor is spreading . . .

vague unachievable promises that make a great soundbite.
Let's hope the people of Florida are smarter than to take the rancid bait.

6. FYI, EVERY politician's opponent in Florida is Castro.

Without a strong anti Castro platform, in Florida, one is toast (both Rs and Ds).

Without Castro as Head of State of Cuba, Fla politicians would need to have an actual platform.

No Castro = no anti Castro campaign contributions from taxpayer paid "anti" Castro activists (understand this: these pols and "activists" are really dependent on Castro for this, and none really want Fidel or Raul Castro gone).
