GOP Rep. Faults White House on Iraq Site

The Associated Press
Sunday, November 5, 2006; 3:11 PM

WASHINGTON -- House Intelligence Chairman Peter Hoekstra criticized the Bush administration on Sunday for its handling of a trove of once-secret documents from Saddam Hussein's covert nuclear program disclosed on a federal Web site.

Hoekstra, R-Mich., complained the U.S. intelligence community hadn't properly declassified the documents.

"Well, you know, we have a process in place. It looks like they screwed up," he said on CNN's "Late Edition."

His office began reviewing the consequences, including who accessed the documents. Four Democratic senators demanded he also tell them why and how the site began, what role members of Congress played and whether the administration ignored U.S. intelligence officials' concerns.

"How valuable that information was, I really don't know," Hoekstra said. "Now we release _ or they inadvertently release some of these documents and they show that the Iraqi program may be much further along than anybody ever anticipated."

3. "How valuable that information was, I really don't know," Hoekstra said.
It's not as if that's his job or anything.

4. Hoekstra originally pushed the idea saying it was "worth the risk"!!
And the documents proved NOTHING about Iraq's wmd that wasn't old intelligence and already known!! It was the OTHER stuff they put online -- like technical diagrams about how to make nukes -- that was criminally negligent and has the world freaking out!!

Good Lord these RW bastards are despicable liars!! THROW THEM OUT!!

12. Not let him get away with re-writing history would be my first choice
But since the damn liberal media doesn't know how to do its job, what we really need is a Congress with the integrity to investigate snakes like Hoekstra. Got any ideas? ;)

7. why does the hoekster use the present tense?
"the Iraqi program may be much further along..". Does the nincompoop still think Saddam Hussein is developing nuclear weapons from his cell on death row? Geez, and they think Bush is in a state of denial.

11. I saw him with Wolf Blitzer this morning & was pleasantly SHOCKED
Hoekstra was giving some asinine RW spin that the media was missing the point because while it's unfortunate that 'they' put these documents 'out there' the documents do provide evidence that Iraq had nukes (or maybe he said had a nuke program) and thus provide a reason for the war..

Here's the surprising part: BLITZER called him on it! BLITZER immediately said 'no, those documents are very old, from pre 1992, from before the Kuwait invasion'.

I couldn't believe my ears.
