Roadside bomb kills 3 U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan


KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Three U.S. soldiers have died of wounds received in a bomb explosion in Afghanistan, the U.S. military said Monday.

The soldiers died October 31 of injuries suffered when a roadside bomb blew up near their vehicle in Wygal Valley, the military said.

The dead were identified as Maj. Douglas E. Sloan, 40, of Evans Mills, New York; Sgt. Charles J. McClain, 26, of Fort Riley, Kansas; and Pfc. Alex Oceguera, 19, of San Bernardino, California.

All three were members of the Army's 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, with headquarters at Fort Drum, New York, the military said.

Their deaths bring the number of U.S. military fatalities in Afghanistan since U.S. forces entered the country on October 7, 2001, to 277.
