Seven die in suicide attack on US firm
Seven die in suicide attack on US firm

Thursday December 7, 2006

KANDAHAR - A suicide bomber attacked the office of a US-owned security company in southern Afghanistan yesterday, killing seven people, including two Americans, officials said.

The Taleban claimed responsibility for the blast outside the office of the Houston-based US Protection and Investigations (USPI) in Kandahar city.

"The bomber was questioned by a security guard as to where he was going, in front of the office, and he blew himself up among company employees," Kandahar's police chief Esmatullah Alizai told reporters.

The company provides guards for foreign companies working on construction and infrastructure projects.

2. They should be considered a hard target
It's a company of mercenaries used for protection.

They qualify as a hard target.

6. The Taliban seem to be more selective than the Iraqi
insurgency. They are consistently hitting effective targets with their irregulars. Of course, they have the luxury of also having a longer experience as formal military units than the Iraqis.

This was, I suspect, not just a rush the fence kinda job. And they are going to push the westerners out of Afghanistan if we aren't better staffed there.

But by all means, let's stay the course in Iraq...
