Group wants top court to void lesbian divorce
Des Moines Register
A conservative group in Des Moines will ask the Iowa Supreme Court to void a divorce granted in Sioux City to a lesbian couple who had been joined in a Vermont civil union.

Chuck Hurley, president of the Iowa Family Policy Center, said the group will file papers Monday accusing District Judge Jeffrey Neary of overstepping his authority because same-sex marriages are not allowed by Iowa law - so the divorce is improper.

"We can't let a judge create his own little fiefdom and become a super legislature. That stuff has to go before the people's body," Hurley said.

the editorial in the same paper summed it up best:

should form a group{a powerful one} whose sole pupose is to take on the religous facists tooth and nail. media, p.r., legal action, etc.

Marriage is at stake here. No, I mean divorce is at stake. No, I mean straight couples are the only ones allowed to get divorced. To allow gays the right to get divorced is a step on a slippery slope to marriage....

9. If they void this divorce, then they SUPPORT Same-Sex Marriage.
They should be happy about that, since all the bullshit you hear from these so-called "pro-family" assholes supports marriage!

Besides, there is something called the FULL FAITH AND CREDIT clause in the Constitution reuiring each state to respect the laws of another state!

13. These folks might be biting off more than they can chew.
The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution says:"Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

They are citizens of the state where they reside. Hsow, interesting that these people want to deny this couple equal protection of the laws.

These people could really be opening Pandora's box in their twisted perspective and not realize it. They want to make these people second class citizens. I guess it has long been that way for gay people, what a shame.
