Incident at the Port of Miami-Dade proved to be just 'miscommunication,' authorities say
<snip>

"The Iraqi national pulled up in his tractor-trailer truck for a routine delivery at the Port of Miami-Dade early Sunday.

It was anything but.

Port security guards stopped the driver, who lacked the proper identification to enter the port. He said he was alone. Miami-Dade police questioned him. His Iraqi relative and a Lebanese man were found in the cab -- one without any I.D. at all. In the back of the truck was a 40-foot cargo container holding auto wire parts.

Within minutes, the port was on high security alert. And as the story leaked out on cable news networks, the media mobbed the port as local, state and federal authorities began investigating what seemed like a possible national security threat.

It was not. By mid-afternoon, authorities found no explosive, hazardous or dangerous materials on the truck. The driver's manifest matched the contents in the cargo hold."

1.  "just 'miscommunication'" enough, apparently,
to completely hijack hours and hours of CNN all day today. I guess they weren't interested in covering anything else.

10. he probably didn't lie, he most likely just didn't communicate well
and this lead to a confrontation. Stupid as it might have been for him to say he was alone it sounds to me like just a family person hauling his brother or friend around for the day to show him the sights. I wasn't there so who knows what happened, but with jumpy under trained poorly paid contract hired help security guard who sees muslim!! and quits communicating and starts jumping to assumptions, (it is sunday and the a team is probably at home watching football), throw in a scared minority man of the kind everyone is suspicious of who commands little english beyond pleasantries, and, well we have what we have. Then a fux knews director gets sexually excited by the possibilities and cable news takes up the siren song. Brown people hiding in cabs of trucks! Wahlah.....an incident of the scary kind.
This country is surely being judged by a disgusted god.

11. ... "Due to a miscommunication between the gate security personnel and the truck driver,
we believe there was a discrepancy in the number of people in the vehicle attempting to enter the Port of Miami," <Miami-Dade police spokeswoman> Goldberg said. "This, and the fact that one of the individuals did not have any form of ID, raised our level of concern."

"Maybe it could have been a language barrier; we don't know at this point," she said ...

12. cnn kept saying they were in the cargo, yet they were in the cab.

......Then Miami-Dade police officers discovered two additional passengers inside the cab area in the back seat of the truck.

They grew suspicious because of the ''miscommunication'' about the number of people in the truck attempting to enter the port, she said. Also, one passenger didn't have any identification, she said.

''Based on these series of events and in an abundance of caution, we initiated security protocols that included calling in our Southeast Regional Security Task Force,'' Goldberg said.

County and federal squads examined the truck's cargo container and found nothing suspicious -- only auto wiring harnesses being shipped to Latin America. The wiring devices are used to help rewire electronic equipment such as stereos in cars.
