Tancredo sees "void," plans presidential committee
By Jennifer Talhelm
The Associated Press
Article Last Updated: 01/16/2007 09:17:38 AM MST

Washington - Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo, an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration, said today he will form an exploratory committee this week for a possible presidential campaign but does not plan to give up his House seat.

After making a weekend trip to Iowa, home to the first nominating caucus in January 2008, Tancredo said voters there told him other presidential candidates don't share their views.

"They believe that there is a void in this race that none of the other candidates are willing or able to fill," he said.

Tancredo has said immigration would be a central issue if he does run. Campaign spokesman Tim Haley said today Tancredo would also push opposition to abortion and other conservative themes as well.

10. Good - we need someone to track down all those missing Soviet suitcase nukes
:sarcasm:

In case you weren't aware, this is the Congressman who's made claims that Al Qaeda has smuggled at least a dozen, maybe more, Soviet-era suitcase nukes into this country.

13. Okay, well . . .
We have the Republican nutjob slot filled. Thanks, Mr. Tancredo.

Humor value aside of this assclown's candidacy, I don't want this garbanzo within telescope distance of the reins of power in this country. Send him on an exploratory mission to, I dunno, Pluto or somewhere.

17. Tancredo supports terrorists....
...and the best part is I don't even have to lie!

<snip>

John Hawkins: Let me ask you another question, it's Iran related. I heard that you support the National Council of Resistance (NCR), a political arm of the Mujahedin-e Kalq (MEK)...

Tom Tancredo: Yes, I do.

John Hawkins: While they are certainly an anti-Iranian group, the State Department says they are also terrorists. Do you believe that to be the case and...

Tom Tancredo: Well, if you're a mullah in Iran, you definitely view them as a terrorist. They're not a terrorist threat to the United States. They pose absolutely no threat. In fact, they are a great asset.

I wonder when he'll have his Reagan moment and call them "Freedom Fighters"?

19. Yes, there's a void
The Repugs need MORE, not less, ideologically insane candidates out there.

The many faces of the GOP - Tom Tancredo represents the paranoid, hater of brown people wing. McCain, Guilliani are much too nice to brown people.
