Bush chides Iraq over recent executions ("It makes it harder for me to...)

Bush chides Iraq over recent executions

By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer 2 minutes ago

WASHINGTON -
President Bush said Tuesday the unruly execution of
Saddam Hussein "looked like it was kind of a revenge killing," making it harder to persuade a skeptical U.S. public that Iraq's government will keep promises central to Bush's plan for a troop increase.

In his toughest assessment yet, Bush criticized the circumstances of Saddam's hanging last month, as well as Monday's execution of two top aides, including Saddam's half brother.

.........
Bush said he had expressed his displeasure about the way Saddam's execution was handled to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. The president announced what he called a new strategy for the war last week, with much of it hinging on his trust in al-Maliki's government to make radical changes.

"It basically says to people, `Look, you conducted a trial and gave Saddam justice that he didn't give to others. But then, when it came to execute him, it looked like it was kind of a revenge killing,'" the president said.

"It makes it harder for me to make the case to the American people that this is a government that does want to unify the country and move forward," Bush said. "And it just goes to show that this is a government that has still got some maturation to do......

pressure being put on PM al-Maliki.

I wish that I had some confidence in our "leadership".

(re: an earlier)

While "standing alone" is the sort of imagery the pretender-in-chief likes, it's bs.

w is surrounded by a coterie and court of sycophants -- and if these courtiers change their ways (rather unlikely in any numbers, methinks), then better butt-kissers will be found.

Feeding w's ego is foundational.

15. Bush: Saddam execution made to look like "revenge killing"

http://www.fox21.com/Global/story.asp?S=5947637&nav=2KPp

Bush: Saddam execution made to look like "revenge killing"

WHITE HOUSE President Bush says the Iraqi government "fumbled" Saddam Hussein's execution, and the hanging ended up looking like a "revenge killing."

In his toughest words yet about the execution, he told an interviewer it shows the Iraqi government still has "some maturation to do."

Interviewed by "The P-B-S NewsHour", the president said he told Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki (NOO'-ree ahl-MAHL'-ih-kee) he's "disappointed" with how the execution was handled. Bush says an event that should have closed an ugly chapter in Iraqi history has instead sent "a mixed signal."

Still, he says Saddam was tried -- and received "justice that he didn't give to others."

18. Assassination attempt alters battle plan (Guardian 20 Mar 2003)
US assault begins with 'decapitation strike' rather than blitzkrieg as Bush is told of chance to kill Saddam, writes Brian Whitaker

Thursday March 20, 2003
SocietyGuardian.co.uk

... The assassination plan was presented to Mr Bush at a four-hour meeting which ended at 0020 GMT - just in time for the president to have what the White House described as a "relaxing dinner" with his wife.

On the way to dinner, Mr Bush told his speechwriter to get busy.

At 0315 GMT he appeared on television to announce that ... "We will accept no outcome but victory."

With these words, according to CNN, Mr Bush went straight to bed ...

19. "some maturation to do."
Coming from the guy who mocks death row inmates.

http://www.commondreams.org/views/102500-101.htm
>>> ridiculed death row inmate Karla Faye Tucker, whining in mock exaggeration in an interview that Tucker begged, ''Please don't kill me.'' Bush, who has made his Christianity part of his resume, mocked Tucker even though she said she had found Christ. <<

escalates so that Iran can be blamed, don't you? Nice planning Dubya...especially the slitting of his throat at the end and the lynching on a Sunni high holiday...nice touch.

21. fumbled maybe? maybe they executed the wrong guy?
not usually in the business of posting photos of dictators or ex-dictators but does the man in the above photo (the one they executed)look like the real Saddam? The real is Saddam below. The eyes are different. Maybe they executed the wrong man? Is the real one still at large?

26. Bush the Idiot
Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 10:13 AM by gem_baby1
This guy is a real piece of work. I don't know how Americans can put up with him. He would have been tossed over by his own party long time ago if he were Prime Minister here in Canada.

I'm sorry if this post sounds judgmental. I know there are many wonderful Americans out there. That's why I joined this site, to remind myself of the fact.

However, the whole situation with the Bush Administration is pretty surreal. Downright unbelievable, in fact
