Tony Snow: Are War Critics in Congress Aiding Al-Qaeda?
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003534143

At his White House briefing today, Press Secretary Tony Snow faced a grilling over the Democrats' opposition to the president's troop escalation. He labeled Sen. Hillary Clinton's backing for a "cap" on troops in Iraq at the current 130,000 as "extreme."

But he also suggested that war opponents in congress need to consider what message they are sending in favoring a resolution or legislation that opposes the president's "surge"-- saying it was "worth asking" the question of whether they might sending a message to al-Qaeda. The implication was that their opposition could be seen as giving al-Qaeda a green light to expand their actions.

Early in the briefing, Snow hit congressional moves to halt the buildup, saying this "raises the question, in terms of the Iraqis, will they take us at our word when we say we support them? And will it, in fact, make it easier for suitors, whether they be Iranians or al-Qaeda members to say, well, look, you can count on us, we're going to be around? That is not a flip concern. It is something that you have to take into account."

He raised the al-Qaeda issue again a little later. "It's probably worth asking," Snow said, "what message does Congress intend to give, and who does it think the audience is? Is the audience merely the President? Is it the voting American public? Or in an age of instant communication, is it also al Qaeda? Is it Iraq? Is it players in Iraq? Is it U.S. troops? Is it people in the Gulf who want to understand whether the United States is, in fact, a partner upon whom they can depend for security even in trying times?

"All those are questions that deserve to be raised. I don't think there are illegitimate questions. And all I'm saying is that those are things that members ought to take into consideration."

STFU Snow! Trying to play that dissenters are terrorists card again!

Does Tony Snow believe the President should act as a Dictator?

Does Tony Snow believe the President should create the laws instead of Congress?

What message does Tony Snow think he is providing to al Qaeda? Is he telling them that his boss is an idiot? Maybe that he lies and can't be trusted?

What message does Tony Snow think he is providing to the world leaders? See above response.

24. Watch for it...
More and more, the RW is using the FACT of the Internet to stifle free speech:

"It's probably worth asking," Snow said, "what message does Congress intend to give, and who does it think the audience is? Is the audience merely the President? Is it the voting American public? Or in an age of instant communication, is it also al Qaeda?" (Emphasis mine)

In other words, since there's "instant communication" in this "age" anything you say may be suspect.

His cheneyousself's propaganda implies that his beloved lying-neocons-for-personal-gain don't encourage al Qaeda by sending them a constant "flow" of what they "consider" their owned cannon-fodder for them to snipe at whenever they feel like, instead of keeping them home to really secure the country...

Your bathwater remark made me reflect on a point that Snowjob touched on....

Which Gulf is Tony refering to when he says:

"Is it people in the Gulf who want to understand whether the United States is, in fact, a partner upon whom they can depend for security even in trying times?"

Is this finally an acknowledgement of "trying times" for the victims of Katrina???

Last week we had the Pentagon attacking lawyers for representing detainees. Now the White House doesn't believe Congress should be allowed to have any opinion that Bush doesn't support.

Can we spread some of that democracy back here in the U.S.? I didn't think it was a finite resource.

Snow is a traitor.

49. no one but a fool
allows spending of their money without putting a limit on what can be spent. Anyone with a brain and a sense of responsibility puts a cap on their spending. I certainly want the troop who are there to have the funding to buy armor plated vehicles and body armor--what I dont' want is our country handing other countries in the conflict regions a blank check to spend the money as they wish without them having to meet some serious criteria in order to get another one. That is what Clinton is talking about, not what Snow is spinning.

Mr. Snow needs to remember that before his boy stole the election and invaded a country that posed no threat to ours, the problem with al Qaida was not on the scale as it is now. His boy created this mess all on his own--it's not now those opposed to his tactics' problem to keep it going now that every malcontent in the middle east is rallying to the cause to repell american forces from the region. There needs to be a diplomatic solution for this, not a military one. The source of volunteer troops in this country is finite--and unless they're willing to institute a draft, they need to be working on negotiations and diplomacy, not sending more of the youth of our country to fight, and certainly not in handing the Afghanistans/Iraqis a blank check or giving them weapons. And believing that isn't empowering al Qaida--us sending more troops in is what empowers al Qaida because we're fighting against and endless supply of extremists who don't give a fuck and who have nothing to lose; they see glory in death. Americans hardly do and hardly ever will.
