Edwards Urges Talks with Iran
Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards criticized the Bush administration on Sunday for failing to engage directly with Iran to resolve problems with the Iraq war and Iran's effort to develop nuclear weapons.

"It's a huge strategic mistake not to be dealing directly with Iran," Edwards told the Associated Press in an interview before a campaign event in Dubuque.

'What we should be doing with Iran, both on the Iraq issue and the nuclear issue, is being much smarter than we're being now. We have tools available to us to engage them.'"

1. Good to hear him issue this call
Maybe he has heard the discontent with his earlier statements.

2. Edwards has been leading the pressure on Bush.
I don't understand the disconnect that people have, and can not see the fact that Edwards has been leading in the withdrawal and the push at President Bush.

3. Disconnect
I think the disconnect is the result of a corporate MSM focused on Obama and Hillary rather than the issues. Edwards has been saying for a long time that the US needs to engage in talks not only with Iran, but direct talks with N. Korea. MSM pundits also love to opine that it is easy for Edwards to advance bold policies on the Iraq war because he is not in the Senate, but they overlook that he voted against Bush's request for funding for Iraq in 2004 (when that was an extremely unpopular position to take).

The tendency of MSM to avoid covering Edwards seems to be changing in the last week or so. If MSM gives half as much coverage to Edwards (who does very well in Iowa and NH polls) as it does to its darlings, people will see Edwards as a leader who really will make positive changes. He is already shaping the 08 presidential race by forcing the other candidates to take definitive stands they would prefer to avoid.

6. MSM, thanks to early start, will tire of all Clinton, all Obama.
Edwards will get more press and be able to show his ideas. Does he have enough money to hold him for the long run?
