Alzheimers? Iran/Contra? Grenada? Panama? Air Traffic Controllers firing? Assassination attempt? B movie? Faux WWII memories?

11. Thankfully. Are Reagan's "Sandinista terrorists" on the Texas border yet?
Edited on Sun Apr-08-07 04:49 PM by L. Coyote
A President who illegally supports covert warfare, aids invading another democratic nation, and attempts overthrowing another government, with financing by secretly selling US missiles to terrorists, that may be a hero to Republicans, but it is the last thing the US needs.

It was Reagan who gave us the politically ambiguous term terrorist as a catch-all for right-wing political enemies.

33. Roger Staubach will push them out of San Antonio's strip malls
that's almost a quote of what Reagan said. The idiot fell asleep at half the Cabinet meetings (usually once the introductions were over) and bragged that he didn't read bills and papers he signed...

3. To me Reagan symbolizes...
Edited on Sun Apr-08-07 03:29 PM by junofeb
Loss of good-paying jobs, massive unemployment, the destruction of my home town, ketchup as vegetable, a life spent a check away from homelessness, and brylcream. I felt so alone hating his honky ass (his hometown was 45 miles away from mine, lots of local 'rah-rah' as we slipped into the 3rd world...) for damn near thirty years now. Glad to know others think of this slimy insane STUPID weasel the same way anymore...

On edit: I first saw people seriously eat ramen noodles as a staple under Ray-gun. Gosh, I wonder why...

21. You forgot the "vegetable" dish along with that ramen: ketchup.
Edited on Sun Apr-08-07 08:33 PM by calimary
That asshole put "compassionate CONservatism" on the map, and made it far more possible for a george w. bush to blight the political landscape years later.

My friend, you may have felt alone back then, but you weren't. He turned my stomach every day. I always regarded reagan as THE most dangerous man on the planet because of that "aw-shucks" avuncular gee-whiz kindly-old-uncle schtick of his. With that image as his cover, he could jam the worst and greediest and stingiest of "ideals" down America's collective throat - and make millions of unsuspecting, gullible chumps out there swallow it down and beg for more. The "IGMFU" way of life (acronym for "I Got Mine, F-U") was considered cool, and desirable, and he was damned near canonized for it. Nobody realized how much damage he'd done, or caused to be done by others in his name, until lo these many years later. SOME Americans have awakened from their sad stupor. Not everybody, unfortunately. This schmuck (whose name reminds me very much of gum disease) still worships at the reagan altar. God only knows why.

I'm actually quite gratified that they don't have their latter-day reagan to worship now. I'm glad they think they're adrift like this, and flailing about in the wilderness (or at least that they feel as though they are). I'm glad for the sake of all the rest of us. Another reagan type arising from the muck would be horrible news. A nail in the coffin of what's left of this country.

newtie, you bastard, YOU are part of the PROBLEM, NOT the solution. YOU are part of what's gone so wrong in this country. YOU are personally one of its architects and lead actors. You are utterly damnable.

4. From a marketing standpoint, Obama will be the 'new Reagan'
...in my opinion.

Reagan's 'morning in America, shining city on a hill' thing brought him a lot of votes from independents. I haven't seen this comparison made too much, but it seems to me his campaign's taking that page from the Reagan playbook. Optimism about a bright future plays big, coming on the heels of a presidency like Bush's.

Plus, Republicans get red in the face when you tell them this...

6. Reagan was the beginning of Hitlerism in the U.S., which has not yet ended.
"'Lift your heads! Be proud to be German! There are devils among us. Communists, Liberals, Jews, Gypsies! Once these devils will be destroyed, your misery will be destroyed.' It was the old, old story of the sacrifical lamb."

http://imdb.com/title/tt0055031/quotes
Quote from Judgement at Nuremberg For Reagan, it was fictitious welfare queens and union workers.

"What difference does it make if a few political extremists lose their rights? What difference does it make if a few racial minorities lose their rights? It is only a passing phase. It is only a stage we are going through. It will be discarded sooner or later. Hitler himself will be discarded... sooner or later."

As you listen to Rush Limbaugh and the sadistic right, do you realize that what happened in Nazi Germany began its march in America when Reagan became president? The reich wing will not stop. How many will they kill for profits, for security, for oil?

9. Reagan's cabinet is precisely what we have now.
What Bush is doing now is the same thing Reagan would have done if he had a Republican-controlled congress. And they're engaging in state-sponsored terrorism and waging a domestic war against the economic majority, just like they did then. War on both fronts, war without end.

Reagan ran insane deficits, just like the current clown prince is. The fiscally conservative Reagan legacy is all bullshit, too. I don't know what these people are even talking about. There's nothing conservative about Reagan or Bush.

15. Reagan proved "it"

Yes over 20 years ago Reagan cut taxes and revenues went up ... after Congress agreed to a hike in FICA taxes. Twenty four year later and the media STILL won't call them on the voodoo economics.

Let's not forget that the Clinton tax increase in '92 was going to plunge the US economy into a recession. The greatest period of US economic expansion followed.

29. They are all running on illegal immigration so does it matter?
Fear the immigrant! They can't run on anything else because they have no ideas. The neo-con coup has been exposed. Now our job is to make sure the rethugs have to own the last 6 years of total failure. If we have to claim every liberal they have to be made to claim this administration after all they are all conservatives. Conservatism has been tried and it has failed miserably. Learn it, love it, embrace it and repeat it as often as possible. Don't let them get away with starting any sentence with... "a true conservative"... a "fiscal conservative".... NO!

38. I'm reminded of an old story...
Nancy and ronny ray-gun are in a restaurant.

The waiter comes up and says, "May I take your order?"

Nancy gives him her choice of entree.

The waiter then says, "And for the vegetable?".

Nancy says, "Oh, he'll have what I'm having."

Newt's wrong, they've got PLENTY of them.
