Chimps Genes More Evolved Than Humans
Source: news at yahoo.com

Since the human-chimp split about 6 million years ago, chimpanzee genes can be said to have evolved more than human genes, a new study suggests.

The results, detailed online this week in the Proceedings of the large brains, cognitive abilities and bi-pedalism.

Jianzhi Zhang of the University of Michigan and his colleagues analyzed strings of DNA from nearly 14,000 protein-coding genes shared by chimps and humans. They looked for differences gene by gene and whether they caused changes in the generated proteins.

Genes act as instructions that organisms use to make proteins and thus are integral to carrying out biological functions, such as transporting oxygen to the body’s cells. Different versions of the same gene are called alleles.

5. This is why I don't like people constantly referring to W as the chimp
Chimpanzees are admirable. W is not.

We can learn a lot from other species & should respect other lifeforms on this magnificent planet.

AND WE should s*#t-can W ASAP before he and his cronies wipe out any other species by weakening the few environmental laws/regs we have.

and maybe they'll actually believe in evolution when the proof is presented to them some day.

9. no they won't - there is already a mountain of evidence
for evolution that is ignored. Any proof is seen as "work of the Devil" by the anti-science crowd.

19.  The idea of evolution as "progress" is a 19th century rhetorical creation
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 09:49 AM by Nikki Stone1
A "marketing gimmick" if you prefer. What Darwin realized is that mutations could be literally anything and those that stuck were those that the environment favored, regardless of value in human terms. There was no better or worse, only change. But "progress" was the ideal of both academics (philosophers and scientists) as well as of Christian ministers who wanted to make humans better. So to get his ideas out there without being completely shut down by the establishment, Darwin's evolution had to be dressed up as progress.

17. For those whose less evolved genes can't make out the second sentence
here's the correct version, without the random Yahoo word editing:

The results, detailed online this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, contradict the conventional wisdom that humans are the result of a high degree of genetic selection, evidenced by our relatively large brains, cognitive abilities and bi-pedalism.

21. "More evolved?"
It sounds like something someone who's sorely ignorant about biology would say.
