Ross: No White House Officials On D.C. Madam's List

Contradicting his own earlier claim, ABC News' Brian Ross said during the airing of 20/20's segment on the D.C. Madam tonight that no White House officials were included on Deborah Palfrey's customer list. “There are thousands of names, tens of thousands of phone numbers,” Ross said a week ago. “And there are people there at the Pentagon, lobbyists, others at the White House, prominent lawyers — a long, long list.” Ross added that the women who worked for the service, potentially as prostitutes, “include university professors, legal secretaries, scientists, military officers.”

Tonight, Ross could only recount the previously reported outing of Deputy Secretary of State Randall Tobias and Harlan Ullman, a renowned military analyst and Washington Times columnist. Ross also said there were no members of Congress, Republican or Democrat, on Palfrey's list. In fact, he conceded the list was largely comprised of average joes. Gee, you think Ross and ABC News may have over-hyped this story a wee bit just to improve ratings during sweepstakes week?

No other sources were available when I google news on this. The show has not aired west coast time yet. Apparently Ross isn't naming names despite his reports earlier. Its time the list got posted on line. Perhaps Josh Marshall's people have dug up some names.

2. perhaps Ross was told to go easy
given ABC is being monitored by the gov relative to the potential national security leaks from the WH.

There was a thread on that a day or so ago.

4. TV stations have to renew their license, so it might be to their
benefit to not name names.

7. Letter to Ross and 20/20>
Edited on Fri May-04-07 09:50 PM by caligirl
Most living breathing people waited all week to here the names of those who hired escorts, who also hold public office. You seemed to indicate multiple times that prominent people, White House too, were on the list. A man of your reputation should not reverse course and now deny what you said earlier about who is on the list. You can't put the tooth paste back in sir.

Your reputation has suffered tonight in view of the way this was handled and the apparent caving by ABC.Looks like the blogosphere will once again have to report the news you won't.

Disappointed.

3. not after the White House ordered them destroyed (records that is)
I firmly believe the CIA plant at ABC gave the WH full access to all records in order to "protect" certain parties and blackmail others

46 pounds of paper and not one prominent name?!? Yea, right. I didn't trust ABC, but I hoped I was wrong.

I guess it's up to the DC Madam to defend herself. Damn, I hope she made several copies just to be safe.

15. 30,000 phone calls from 2002 to 2006
Edited on Fri May-04-07 10:16 PM by LiberalFighter
The phone records reflected the pattern of business at the service, as Palfrey described it to ABC News. A prospective customer would call in -- a call that was not reflected in the phone records, which only showed outgoing calls. Palfrey then called an escort or escorts to assign the "appointment." Then she called the client back -- in a call that was captured in the phone records -- to confirm the time and location of the appointment and the escort who would arrive.

After matching identities to many numbers, the phone records looked less like a torrent of random digits and more like a coherent record of a functioning business.

Of course, that's easier said than done; many of the identities proved difficult to match. For example, calls to hotels frustrated the effort. Many men arranged "appointments" with Palfrey from a hotel room telephone, which made those clients nearly impossible to identify from the phone records.

17. I hate to say I told you so.....
But I just knew there wouldn't be anything to this story...

The way ABC was hyping it and then waiting until Sweeps started....

It had all the earmarks of crappy, tabloid journalism...

Just a load of salacious crap...

23. Of course not KKKarl uses that male escort that had
access to the WH and was a "WH Reporter".

My only problem with this is the hypocrisy of keeping prostitution illegal. KKKarl should be able to have his pleasure before being sent off to prison where he will not enjoy the attention he might get.

26. Interesting turn-about here by Ross/ABC.
Looks like something went on behind the scenes that scared off Ross/ABC from naming names.

I forgot to watch it last night. Did they say who was the head of the think-tank on the list?

28. According to ABC's own web site
Edited on Sat May-05-07 12:32 PM by rocknation
in a story about the sudden resignation of a Bush adviser, "...(A)n aide to President Bush tells ABC News that (he) is not on the DC Madam's list." And just how did the White House know that? I thought ABC News had the list! Did the White House see the list before ABC? Or did ABC give it to them for scrubbing?

On edit: Just read the transcript of the 20/20 segment--VERY dull; I'm glad I forgot to watch it. Palfrey said she's going to bring the bastards down? Well, do it, then--NAME NAMES!!!

men to the White House. Those at the top would not be interested in Paltrey's service. They are more into saddistic males.
