NASA study: Eastern U.S. to get hotter
Source: AP

By SETH BORENSTEIN
AP Science Writer

"WASHINGTON (AP) -- Future eastern United States summers look much hotter than originally predicted with daily highs about 10 degrees warmer than in recent years by the mid-2080s, a new NASA study says."

"Unless we take some strong action to curtail carbon dioxide emissions, it's going to get a lot hotter," said Lynn, now a scientist at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. "It's going to be a lot more dangerous for people who are not in the best of health."

"Many politicians and climate skeptics have criticized computer models as erring on the side of predicting temperatures that are too hot and outcomes that are too apocalyptic with global warming."

Global Warming, here and there. In Europe one of the warmest winters ever had.

In Italy our bears didn't want to go to sleep last winter because of warmth. Little rain, rivers at risk for drying.

Hot hot summer expected. May and June hotter than average, July dangerous for elders and weak of heart!

It's 7.53 am in centre - Italy now. Already 24°C. And we're in Spring.

Nice portrait, isn't it?!

1. Hmmm...we could be in for two seasons. Winter and Summer, and each quite dramatic. NT

4. Thanks for welcoming me!
Grape crops: a 2006 study of the University of Florence states the red Brunello di Montalcino, the Chianti Classico and the Nobile di Montepulciano may disappear within a century from tuscany hills and move northward looking for right temperatures!

Disappointing for Tuscany! Disappointing for all of us italians should the grape cultivation move to as far north as France!!

5. can you translate the Lorca quote on your profile?
Gee, I hadn't thought of Lorca for a long time -- not since I had an 8 a.m. class studying his work, in college.

6. with much pleasure!
Lorca writes: "If I die/leave the balcony open..."

The poetry is titled "Despedida" (last goodbye)

"If I die, / leave the balcony open.
The child eats oranges. / (I can see him from my balcony).
The harvester cuts the grain. / (I can hear him from my balcony).
If I die, / leave the balcony open!"

My poor translation!

7. Napa valley is also actively seeking a solution.
They will try every tactic they can to grow their grapes in their own valley. But it may be a losing battle.

Also, what makes you think French grape cultivation will be unaffected? In fifty years the wheat belt which nourishes America will be high into Canada. If we aren't ready with new crops, Americans may starve.

8. damn
That means the "wine culture" will move north into Lake County, bringing with it people, pollution and high prices.

10. Well, that should make NASCAR interesting . . .
Watch for wrecks on the track and watch for heatstroke response teams in the stands.
