9 mortar rounds hit Baghdad's Green Zone (Wed)

BAGHDAD (AP) — At least nine apparent mortar rounds slammed into the U.S.-controlled Green Zone on Wednesday, wounding at least six people, the second such attack in as many days, an official said.
The explosions occurred shortly before 4 p.m., about the same time the Green Zone was hit on Tuesday.

"Preliminary information indicates they were mortars, but that hasn't been confirmed," U.S. Embassy spokesman Lou Fintor told The Associated Press. He said at least six people were reported injured but their nationalities had not been confirmed.

Also Wednesday, a parked car bomb exploded near a market in a Shiite enclave northeast of Baghdad, killing at least 32 people and wounding 50, police said. Hospital officials and wounded victims said chlorine gas may have been used in the attack, but police denied that.

Yes this story was carried by the bullshit media system. However a brief survey of the major broadcast news web sites indicates that while 'if it bleeds it leads' is the maxim, as far as Iraq goes, Prince Harry Not Going leads and this attack on the green zone with casualties is buried. In this case if it bleeds it recedes.

The bad news gets reported and buried. The bullshit news gets pushed to the top of the page. Prince Harry Not Going is worthy of a minor frontpage story. The carnage in Iraq, including the green zone attacks, the daily bombings, and the analysis that the escalation has failed to subdue the insurgency at all ought to be top of the fold and they aren't. They aren't because we are being lied to and brainwashed on a daily basis. They aren't and some of us here still refuse to get it.

SIX people were wounded after nine rounds of what appeared to be mortar bombs slammed into the heavily fortified Green Zone compound in central Baghdad on Wednesday, a US embassy spokesman said.
Insurgents have recently stepped up mortar and rocket attacks on the zone, which houses Parliament, many government ministries, the US embassy and other foreign missions.

Five US embassy contract workers were hurt yesterday when at least one round of “indirect fire” landed in the zone.

Earlier this month, four US government contractors, all from Asia, were killed in a rocket strike.
