Centre of Baghdad hit by blasts

A number of loud explosions have been heard in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

They were followed by the sound of warning sirens at the main compound of the US-led Coalition Provisional Authority in the centre of the city.

A US military spokesman said he was aware of the explosions but had no immediate word on casualties or damage.

Earlier, insurgents carried out a series of attacks in central Baghdad, hitting a hotel used by Westerners and other buildings.

3. CNN showed a picture of Baghdad's skyline and mentioned the attacks

at 5:00 PM ET but they haven't posted anything on their websites. The attacks are so common now that one needs to post the time of the news reports. For example, there were two attacks on the Green Zone on Christmas Day. One wouldn't know that unless one had paid attention to the date/time stamp of the news stories.

6. Damned children and amateurs running things
See, the reason you don't overthrow a leader to make things better is because a nation gets the leader it needs to keep whatever factions exist in line. When you overthrow that leader, all of the people who have been wishing he was gone have free rein to carry out all the power-grab schemes they've been dreaming about for decades. All that stands in their way is us. We didn't make Iraq safer, we destabilized it, and it won't be stable again until it either fragments into the thirteen factions that it comprises, or until a stronger, bloodier dictator (like us) can take charge.

History 101. Too bad Bush cheated his way through that class.
