Congressman Admits to 'Poor Judgment'
Rep. Thomas Says He Exercised 'Poor Judgment' When He Called for Police to Remove Democrats

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON July 23 —

Rep. Bill Thomas, one of the most powerful committee chairmen in Congress, told a somber House of Representatives on Wednesday that he exercised "poor judgment" last week when he called for the Capitol Police to help remove Democrats from a room where they were meeting.

"As my mother would have put it, `when they were passing out moderation, you were hiding behind the door,'" the California Republican a man known for his abrasive style said as he choked back tears.

3. He should resign his committee chairmanship.
Set a friggin example for once. This kind of crap has been going on for far too long.

I hope the Dems demand this.

5. The Dems can demand all they want
but they are the minority party and have no power. That's why I worked so hard in the last two Congressional elections to oust the very popular Republican representative, Morella, who always said that people should vote for the person, not the party. She never acknowledged that the party controls the legistlation, not the person.
Anyway, we elected a good Democrat in 2002. I wish it had been possible for the Dems to have taken back the house.

6. His cute, folksy remark about his mom's admonition
was pathetic.

No doubt she meant to say, `when they were passing out decency and civility, you were hiding behind the door."

8. Funny how he is now admitting to what all the repubs were saying
didn't happen last Friday. All the rupubs testified that the police were not called to remove the dems from the room they were in, but because of the the remaining dems outburst.
Liars, liars, all liars

12. But the damage is done
Will there be a re-vote on the issue, will that last vote that was run through be cancelled and reconsidered? So he can apologise all he wants, he got his legislation, the damage is done.

14. Screaming lies, then whispered confessions.
Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 04:35 PM by Ready4Change
I'm sick of seeing this pattern over and over.

I want to hear each R in that room explain exactly why they claimed the police were only called to control Stark, that they were only called after Stark blew his top, that they were never called to roust the D's from the library.

This was clearly an overt abuse of power, with a coordinated coverup story composed of lies from multiple R's.

This wasn't a mistake. It was a test to see if it could be gotten away with. Thomas should at least loose the chairmanship, and should more fittingly be removed from office for subverting government processes.

15. Aw, boo-hoo, Thomas. Cry me a river.
Sorry, you don't get off THAT easy. Nor are you entitled to shed your SCHMUCK image.

Asshole.

I'm glad this came up. He's the one congrASSman I forgot to call about this, yesterday, when I complained to Scott McInnis (R-CO), Jerry Weller (R-IL), Nancy Johnson (R-CT) - whose staffer hung up on me, and Mark Foley (R-FL) about it. I also called Pete Stark's office and applauded him, and said if I'd been there, those a-holes would have been called FAR worse things than fruitcakes.

18. Although Thomas did not
need any encouragment he was only following the lead
of the grandest ass-hole of all, the one an only Tom
Delay. Who, without question, is the person behind
these problems. His activity as Majority Whip, his
staff's activity in the Florida recount riot, his
intimidation of K Street firms with respect to who
they can hire and where to contribute, his acitivity
in the Texas reapportionment fiasco. Need one go further?
A would be tyrant must be checked, if the leadership
in the H of R cannot or will not do it, the Democratic
members of the H of R need to take a lesson from their
counterparts in Texas. The sooner the better.
