Bush vetoes kids health insurance bill
Source: Yahoo News

By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 47 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - President Bush vetoed legislation Wednesday that would have expanded government-provided health insurance for children, his second slap-down of a bipartisan effort in Congress to dramatically increase funding for the popular program.

It was Bush's seventh veto in seven years — all but one coming since Democrats took control of Congress in January. Wednesday was the deadline for Bush to act or let the bill become law. The president also vetoed an earlier, similar bill expanding the health insurance program.

Bush vetoed the bill in private.

In a statement notifying Congress of his decision, Bush said the bill was unacceptable because — like the first one — it allows adults into the program, would cover people in families with incomes above the U.S. median and raises taxes.

Compassionate conservative are we George? Billions to kill Iraqis. Nothing for the children back home. What an asshole.

4. GOOD
This is what we stand for

This is what THEY stand for

Voters like having choices, and on this issue, I'm quite comfortable giving the American people a clear, crisp choice between what we stand for and what George W. Bush's Heir Apparent in 2008 stands for.

6. Send the bill back to him every month
From now until the miserable end of his miserable term, Bush gets to veto another children's health bill. Let the Republicans explain it. I don't think they'll be able to.

9. Attention Congresspeople,
repeat after me. "We cannot, in good, faith continue to fund the war in Iraq at current levels while our nation's children are not insured. Therefore today I (congress critter one) am putting a hold on the Defense Authorization Bill."

If * wants the money to continue his unfounded wars, make him sign this other bill into law.

That, congresspeople, is how you play hard ball.

Q3JR4.

10. I hope this is used by the Dem presidential candidate
TWO VETOS for health care for children.

Oh, and they should mention the REASONING Bush used for turning it down - "it allows adults into the program, would cover people in families with incomes above the U.S. median and raises taxes"

11. Is this the 'smokers can pay for this' bill? If so...dumbass was actually right.
There's other cash for this without gouging tobacco users. Go find it.

15. And I heard him exclaim as he rode
out of sight,"Are there no prisons?” asked Scrooge.
“Plenty of prisons,” said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.
“And the Union workhouses?” demanded Scrooge. “Are they still in operation?”
“They are. Still,” returned the gentleman, “I wish I could say they were not.”
“The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?” said Scrooge.
“Both very busy, sir.”
“Oh! I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,” said Scrooge. “I’m very glad to hear it.”
