Associated PressThe House's Democratic and Republican leaders ordered an investigation Wednesday into recent incidents involving teenage pages that led to two GOP lawmakers resigning from the House Page Board.
"We agreed to direct the House Inspector General to conduct an independent investigation into recent allegations" surrounding the program, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Republican leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said in a statement.
Two Republicans on the board overseeing the page program resigned last week after blaming House Clerk Lorraine Miller, the day-to-day administrator of the program, for failing to immediately notify them of inappropriate conduct.
Miller, a Democratic appointee, defended her actions, saying the teenagers involved in the incidents were expelled and sent home and that she had kept board members informed.
