Report: Feds Probing Sharpton Finances

NEW YORK - Federal authorities subpoenaed financial
records and employees in an apparent probe of the
Rev. Al Sharpton's 2004 presidential bid, nonprofit civil
rights group and for-profit businesses, newspapers
reported Thursday.

As many as 10 Sharpton associates were subpoenaed
Wednesday to testify before a federal grand jury in
Brooklyn on Dec. 26, his lawyer told the Daily News.

"Here we go again," Sharpton, whose various ventures
have come under scrutiny before, told the New York
Post. "Whatever it is, it's part of the territory.
I'm a public figure."

Sharpton's associates were told to provide
investigators with financial records from the campaign
and roughly six Sharpton-related businesses, as well
as personal financial documents of Sharpton and his
wife, the newspaper said.

1. Hmmm....
there's more criminals within the Bush administration that Chins in a Chinese phonebook, but the Feds are going to spend their time investigating a 2004 failed Presidential bid? :eyes: Glad to see they have their priorities straight. :sarcasm:

3. You may have lots of problems with him...
... but keep in mind he's one of the few high-profile voices that isn't an elected official, but in the religious black community that supports equal marriage rights and has attended conferences speaking out against homophobia.

You may be glad that he's being kept "accountable", but no reason to wish misery on him.

11. I will agree, that the over-all balance of Sharpton's activities is a positive one.
The world is a better place for Sharpton being in it.

However, that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a good spanking now and then.

13. Um... OK...

... any other candidates for "a good spanking now and then" you can come up with?

Use the same criteria if you will... whatever reasons for which you believe Sharpton deserves it, tell me who else does and tell me why they deserve it for reasons similar to those for Sharpton.

14. Off the top of my head? Let me think...
Senator Joe Biden, Senator Robert Byrd, the guy who stared Wendy's, Don Imus, Jesse Jackson, Congressman Stephen Lynch, Drew Carey, Lionel, Ed Schultz, ...

People whose contribution to society has, on balance been more or less positive, but still manage to occasionally plumb the deepest depths of douchebaggery either on occasion, or on one of several issues.

6. on what basis?
what has Sharpton done to you?

Yes, he's ocassionally grandstanded for reputation...and yes he has that weird perm.

But, on most issues, the man is right and has put himself on the line to protect the rights of many African-Americans in this country. He's used his leverage and reputation/fame to bring to light issues that others do not talk about, and he's an excellent debater who doesn't mince words and often speaks for people who have no voice at national debates.

On scale of right or wrong, it's no contest. Sharpton is strongly on the side of what's right in this country.

You need to check your Sharpton-hate.

9. Here we go again with "equal justice"...

Thanks to those posters that understand what Al Sharpton does to be supportive of those that don't have a voice in America.

As an African American woman,I know that he will step up on issues that Bush would step down on and crush to the earth.

Thank you Rev. Al for the good that you do and for running for President in the last Selection.

I recall many at DU jumping for joy when he spoke clearly for the Progressive view.

I recall Democrats so happy to see Al and Jesse fighting to get my people enough justice to stand in a line and VOTE! Without Jesse and Al--- African Americans would not have been able to carry enough weight to get a lot of Democrats in office today!

Is he perfect --- no and neither is Rudy and for sure not the Chimp. Guess who will skate and guess which one gets punished.

12. Good, but when will they investigate the other obscenely wealthy preachers?
especially the whiter Republican ones like Pat Robertson, Ralph Reed, and James Dobson?
