Clinton Vows to Continue Presidential Battle
Source: NYT/Reuters

By REUTERS
Published: January 7, 2008

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Her front-runner status gone, Democrat Hillary Clinton said on Monday she will continue to battle for her party's nomination for the November U.S. presidential election even if she loses the crucial New Hampshire primary.

A Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Monday showed Clinton, a New York senator and former first lady, trailing Barack Obama by 10 points in New Hampshire, which holds its primary on Tuesday.

Obama, a senator from Illinois bidding to make history as the first black U.S. president, has been capitalizing on his surprise win last week in the Iowa caucuses. Clinton, who for months was the front-runner among Democratic candidates, came in third in the Iowa vote behind Obama and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.

"Whatever happens tomorrow, we're going on," Clinton told the CBS "Early Show."

"And we're going to keep going until the end of the process on February 5th. But I've always felt that this is going to be a very tough, hard-fought election, and I'm ready for that." Some 22 states will hold primaries on February 5, and both Democrats and Republicans could decide their presidential nominees by then....

1. "even if she loses the crucial New Hampshire primary."

Hillary already knows she will lose .....

Guess her 100% lock on the nomination is not a "done deal."

Now the only question is will she come in #3?

3. Holding on until super Tuesday
But on Feb. 5, the new "Super Tuesday," 22 states, including New York and California, will hold primaries or caucuses. When that night is over, we likely will know the nominee for each party.

Super Tuesday, 5 February 2008: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Missouri, New Mexico Democrats, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah and West Virginia Republicans‡.<2><5> However to increase their importance in the candidate selection process, several states have shifted up their contests, a move described by some critics as being "pure self-interest."<1> The following states have changed their elections to February 5, a date eventually re-christened Super Duper Tuesday: Alaska,<6> Arizona, <7> California, <5> Colorado, <7> Connecticut, <8> Georgia, <6> Idaho Democrats,<9> Illinois, <10> Kansas Democrats†, <11> Massachusetts, <12> Minnesota,<13> Montana Republicans††,<14> New Jersey,<15> New York, <16> and Tennessee.<17>

4. That's the kind of crap that really has to piss off candidates.
It's gotta be hard not to just say "that's the stupidest thing I've been asked all week. There's been ONE caucus and you're asking me if I'm going to drop out?"

Talk about push polling.

5. I'm glad to see Iowa and New Hampshire don't a country make.

At least, to some people. To me, the race is just beginning.

7. Amen
I'm not a Clinton supporter, but I resent the way the media is saying that she has lost the nomination because she lost two small states that don't really reflect the general population of America.

How about we let the other states have a say before we tell candidates that they are done?

Are we really living in a country full of mindless lemmings who say, "Well, hyuck, I guess since New Hampshire and Iowa chose that Obama guy then I should vote for him too."?

Jeez.

10. Ya Mean...
...everybody in the US gets a chance to vote on a candidate? Gee, listening to CNN, MSNBC, ABC, I thought it was all over after these two states caucused/voted.

6. That tells the story at present.
That HRC has to note that she will stay in the race is the indicator of how badly things are going for her.

Still early, though, so I won't rejoice too much. She could come back.

11. It's more like the media is saying she has no chance because Obama won Iowa
and is probably going to win NH. It's an indicator of media stupidity, nothing else.

8. delegates O 16 hrc 15 edwards 14....so what if obama wins
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 02:56 PM by BenDavid
nh and sc.....as quick as obama took front runner status it can change on a dime...for example, hrc wins nevada and wins in michigan and then wins big in florida over obama...and lets say for the sake of an argument there is no delegates given in michigan or florida. The vote count showing hrc beating obama will be news in and of itself and this will be good going into super tuesday and hrc having the mo. The msm cannot report what has been happening in those states and the people will see it too and think well maybe obama was exactly as folks said...a man with a one page resume and turn back to hrc and on super tuesday hrc captures 16 of the 19 states and obama wins illinois and those other two i give him freely...So now look at the big shift that has occured....

So all you obama folks that are playing violins and the death march for the hrc campaign better just hold em there a minute and see what takes place in michigan and florida before you start again measuring the drapes.....

Obama a man with a silver tongue and a one page resume.....and he wants to be president....

12. What particularly annoys me about Obama

He barely had his foot in the door of the Senate and started running for President. Has he actually seen his office there.

One thing Obama may not be counting on is with regards to Super Delegates and that is that they don't like the establishment being changed and many will be thinking, this upstart thinks he can trump our many many years in the House and Senate and Governorships. As much as I'd like to see it, Washington is not going to change dramatically, it will still be running the way it always has been and if the people think it will, they are nuts.

The Establishment will not let Obama get anywhere the WH. They have many means at their disposal to derail his campaign, its just at their time of doing it. Hence the inflated Obama. Its coming..
