Kucinich to appeal decision keeping him off Texas ballot
1/15/2008 1:15 PM
By: News 8 Austin Staff

Last week News 8 Austin told you about Dennis Kucinich's refusal to sign a state Democratic Party pledge.

A federal judge ruled on Friday that this decision would effectively keep Kucinich off the presidential ballot here in Texas.

Now Kucinich is appealing that ruling. His lawyers are arguing that the required oath violates his First Amendment right to free speech.

3. He Should
Loyalty oaths should be banned. When you enter a party that should be enough.

4. If I didn't know better, I'd think the Establishment is scared of him!
But of course, they're not. They're just scared of what he SAYS and DOES.

5. I'm sick of this exclusion thing! Sick, sick, sick of it!
And when our own party does it, it is even worse. Party of the "big tent." Party of the workers! Party of the poor and neglected! Party of the unrepresented! Party of the excluded. NOT the party of "organized money,' as FDR called it. Where do these so-called Democrats in Texas get off excluding somebody on their potential future actions or beliefs, or vote? This is the stuff of witch-hunts and McCarthyism. And what don't they want people to hear? What are they afraid of? A REAL Democrat, that's what they're afraid of. A real leftist who might call them on their corporate games.

I once had a high opinion of the Texas Democratic Party. This sucks. It is divisive. It is WRONG. A loyalty oath is WRONG!

11. You should sign your oath
You should sign your oath to the constitution and this country, not a political party. I damn sure hope our 2 party system hasn't come to swearing an oath of allegiance to the party. I was already feeling f***ing disenfranchised but that would put me over the top.
