GOP check arrives as Dem recount starts
Source: Union Leader

CONCORD – Teams of counters have started re-counting the Democratic ballots cast in last week's New Hampshire presidential primary.

They are looking first at ballots from Manchester.

Secretary of State William Gardner says his office has received $27,000 from Ohio Democrat Dennis Kucinich to pay for the start of the re-count. Gardner said observers from campaigns and fair elections groups have the right to see and approve every ballot.

~snip~

The Secretary of State's office received at $56,000 check yesterday from Republican Albert Howard of Michigan, who has asked for a re-count of the GOP primary.

Gardner was not available to say when the Republican re-count would begin.

3. How much does this recount cost exactly?
The monetary amounts in the OP make it confusing.

Is the DEMOCRATIC recount only $27,000 while the GOP recount is $56,000? Or does this a joint effort in which Kucinich's $27,000 is accounted for in the $56,000?

If this isn't the case, why would a recount of the GOP cost considerably more than the recount of the Democratic votes in Manchester county?

Thanks. I'm sure someone has an answer.

5. I think the Demo amount is based on a beginning count.
If sufficient discrepancies are found to warrant it, the count will be total and the amount will be raised accordingly. I think this is the agreement that Kucinich reached. He doesn't want to pay for the whole thing unless the early counting, a kind of audit, warrants it.
