Braun to Quit Presidential Bid, Back Dean
Carol Moseley Braun plans to end her White House bid Thursday, leaving an all-male field for the presidency and giving her support to Democratic front-runner Howard Dean. Braun was to officially endorse the former Vermont governor Thursday afternoon during an appearance at Carroll High School in Carroll, Iowa, said Dean campaign manager Joe Trippi. Dean said Wednesday that he welcomed the endorsement of the former senator from Illinois.

1. great news for Dean
We could see this coming after her rise to defend Dean against Sharpton's 'race' attack :-)

2. This tells me
that quite a few people really believe Dean has it sown up. In a sort of dominance interpretation, all indebted candidates who want their losses assumed by the winner endorse when that person is still in some need, the quicker the better. Or, if not that cynical, then this is a very important value judgment from a seriously qualified contender. Either way or both it is a good sign for Dean.

3. No doubting the cynical view
I'm sure CMB wouldn't turn down a cabinet post if it came to that, and that all fits into the scheme of things

4. No surprises here
Braun exits the race as soon as there are no more forums providing her hours upon hours of national television time without ever actually having to run a campaign.

20. That's why she got on the ballot in so many states, right?
So she wouldn't run a national campaign? She only missed getting on the ballot in a few States. Unfortunately, NY was one of them, and that was the beginning of the end.

A year and a half ago, CMB was at the same place in the polls that Dean was. CMB was the only woman in the race and had a real issue which only she spoke to. Well, you place your bets and take your chances. Dean caught fire. CMB didn't. It happens.

She tried to fight for her beliefs nationally. She spoke to them well. It was a crowded field, and the media ignored women's issues (as usual). She lost. She lost gracefully.

11. I'm shocked
Her and Kerry had a good relationship but a Dean endorsement. I figured she's hang out until the very end but I'm glad she's getting out now before she goes further into debt.

It's a very positive endorsement especially for Dean to fight back on racist comments.

13. She's great!
In the debates she was one of the few who could answer real questions, as opposed to the career politicians who mostly just regurgitated sound bytes.
She deserves a great cabinet post.

21. No to HHS (token minority cabinet post) UN Ambassador for CMB
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 02:57 PM by mouse7
HHS is becoming the place to stick minority members of a cabinet. CMB deserves a career track position. UN Ambassador. Develop CMB in the UN Ambassador slot as Madeline Albright was developed for Sec. of State.

18. She accomplished her goal
She rehabilitated her image and would be on the short list of any Democrat for cabinet posts and ambassadorships.

That and I imagine she is out of money.
