Kerry Redefined by Post-Vietnam Efforts
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=2026&ncid=716&e=28&u=/latimes_ts/20040116/ts_latimes/kerryredefinedbypostvietnamefforts

It had been nearly 20 years since the war, so the helicopter that swept down on the village held no menace. Indeed, the children were so curious that they swarmed around the big chopper. And when the tall American with the deeply lined face emerged from inside, they clamored to get closer.

"Hello, hello. Hey, you No. 1 man," the children called in pidgin to the stranger, tugging at his sleeve and reaching to hold his hand.

Sen. John F. Kerry and the other Americans visiting Vietnam soon were asking the children and their elders a crucial question: Had they seen any other Americans, in recent years?

"You could tell by their expressions," Kerry recalled recently, "it was like, 'Where is this question coming from?' "

It is other landings in Vietnam that have come to dominate the Kerry biography — dangerous river forays as commander of a Navy swift boat. Those stories recount the young lieutenant's willingness to charge enemy positions; the daring and courage that brought him the Bronze and Silver Stars. And, then, on coming home, the turnabout that made him into an outspoken opponent of the war.

3. DC: working at Kerry Headquarters for the last few weeks after work
and on my vacation days off....it's a BIG push, but we can win....and I believe that Kerry is the ONLY candidate who can BEAT BUSH in a major way....as a decorated war Veteran....

sorry about dean, but his 'bad back' medical Vietnam deferment with the photos of him skiing in Aspen (bad back?) and his statement that he did 'concrete work' (bad back?) while the Vietnam war raged...

it just won't work, and dean would flub it over his 'bad back'

Decorated War Veteran, John Kerry, is the ONLY candidate who can take out the 'bush* glorious war leader approach'...Kerry can BOOT BUSH back to his fake 'prairie chapel ranch'.....

and I am STANDING UP and working hard for Kerry...Go Kerry...SAVE AMERICA !!!!!

4. I would support anyone who ran against Bush
But I have consistently felt Kerry would be the strongest candidate. His consistency on key issues for many years is very appealing. I saw his wife today on CSpan and thought she was just amazing. She was incredibly articulate and clear on every conceivable subject. She was truly the anti-Laura. If she becomes First Lady, she would continue doing the work she does, so there was a great role model piece there too. She is very much her own person, but also able to come to Iowa and actively support her man.

5. about Teresa Kerry..one of OUR Nation's leading philanthropists (link)
Teresa Heinz Kerry, the wife of Senator John Kerry from Massachusetts, is the chairman of The Howard Heinz Endowment and the Heinz Family Philanthropies. The New York Times has called her “one of the nation’s leading philanthropists”. Named by Utne magazine as one of 100 American visionaries (“people who could change your life”), she is recognized as one of our premier environmental leaders. And she has been a long-time and tireless educator and advocate on behalf of women’s health and economic security.

Teresa Simoes-Ferreira was born and raised in Mozambique in east Africa. Fluent in five languages, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in romance languages and literature from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. After graduating from the Interpreters School of the University of Geneva, she worked for the United Nations in New York. In 1966 she married John Heinz, who subsequently became a congressman and U.S. senator from Pennsylvania; he died in a plane crash in 1991. In 1995, she married Senator John Kerry. She has three sons, two stepdaughters, and one grand child, of whom she is inordinately (but understandably) proud.

After the tragic death of Senator Heinz, she was urged to run for his Senate seat but chose instead to assume direction of the family's extensive philanthropic activities. She immediately undertook a major reorganization designed to sharpen the foundations' strategic focus. Only two years later The Chronicle of Philanthropy noted that under her leadership The Heinz Endowments were already “poised to become a much more influential force in the philanthropic world”.

Today, the foundations she oversees are widely known for developing innovative strategies to protect the environment, improve education, enhance the lives of young children, broaden economic opportunity and promote the arts.

7. There's a sense that John Kerry --
-- is a wide-ranger. There is a depth in him that Dubya can't match. Not just on a political scale, but as adults -- there is simply no way Bush matches Kerry as a self-actualized grown-up with a wide-ranging mind.

In fact, Bush compares very unfavorably with tater tots. He is not very cerebral and he is not very compassionate. Grievous shortcomings for a president and just as grievous for an adult.

Our Democrats will nominate a ticket that will whomp W and that venomous fixer, Dick Cheney, and we'll win not only on the issues facing voters, but because our ticket will have two smart, good-hearted human adults and theirs won't.

We win in November. Order the champagne now, and order a hell of a lot of it.
