Qld's 'Dr Death' arrested in US by FBI

Surgeon Jayant Patel, accused of manslaughter in the deaths of three patients at a Queensland hospital, has been arrested in the United States.

The FBI said Patel was taken into custody without incident on Tuesday in Portland.

The 57-year-old Patel was born in India but is a US citizen who worked for years in Oregon on the US west coast before losing his licence after a series of botched surgeries.

Patel faces 16 charges including manslaughter and grievous bodily harm after a Queensland government inquiry concluded in 2006 that he may have contributed to the deaths of 17 patients at Bundaberg.
