Iraq Qualifies 35 International Oil Companies to Bid for Future Oil and Gas Contracts

AMMAN (AP) -- Thirty-five international oil companies have qualified to bid for future oil and gas contracts to develop one of the world's largest oil fields, an Iraqi oil ministry statement said Sunday.

"The total number of the companies and consortia that participated in the prequalification process was 120 from various nationalities," said the ministry's petroleum contracts and licensing office.

The office listed 35 companies that it said were qualified. They include, among others, BP PLC, Chevron Corp., Exxon Mobil Corp., Royal Dutch Shell PLC, Lukoil Holdings, China National Petroleum Corp., Edison International SpA and Eni SpA.

The contracts office, however, said it would continue updating the process of qualifying companies "especially those that didn't pass (the qualification process) by updating their information with the view to allowing as many as possible of the IOCs to participate in the next licensing round."

Deals that never would have happened had Saddam remained in power?
Billions that never would have been made to stuff the pockets of oil execs?
Real reason behind the war?

2. Now we will see who the real players (oil co.) are.
The push to get Sadr out and force Iran into the fold will be at a new high. This will have to get done before * gets out of office. Southern Iraq will have to be purged of people who will siphon "OUR" oil off and Iran will have to be neutralized so as not to cause problems for the "winner" of the contracts.

4. No wonder Iraq is stashing oil money right now.
Once other countries get contracts, they know their share will be squat.

6. Can you imaging that over 4000 American soldiers have died to
get to that oil...and then they might grant the leases to CHINA...who can afford a very high bid because of bush* and his war? He makes me want to :puke: and I fear for our future if China gets control of all that oil. A war with China will surely be next...that's how bush* intends on getting out of the Brazilian dollars we owe them.

7. Ok. Who's got the info connecting these companies to U.S. TV networks?
Might we be fortunate enough to have one of the big 3 left out of the party? With tight connections between network news, newspapers and radio, our only chance at getting this info to american voters is if one of them was left out, leaving someone with huge influence over the airwaves with a personal axe to grind.

Anyone privy to that info?

9. I was not aware that the U.S. written oil law had been properly ratified.
We'll see how well they do.

My guess is that any western oil companies will have difficulty keeping the mortars off their projects. Particularly if they hire Bangladeshis to work on them instead of locals.

10. Full List:

... None of the companies that have done deals with the
semi-autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq were on the
list. Baghdad claims the deals were illegal and had said that it
would bar companies that had signed contracts with the Kurdish
region from oil deals in the rest of the country.

Political disputes between the Kurdish region and Baghdad
have delayed a vital oil law from being presented to parliament
for over a year. As a stop-gap measure, Iraq plans to award
short-term oil extraction and service contracts to help boost
production.

The following is the full list of companies Iraq's oil
ministry has declared qualified to bid:
