Man Sentenced to Yoga Classes for Slapping His Wife
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A41184-2004Jan23.html

HOUSTON - A man convicted of slapping his wife has been sentenced to yoga classes.

Judge Larry Standley said yoga should help James Lee Cross with his anger management. Cross was ordered to take the class as part of his yearlong probation.

The judge said Cross' case is unique and prosecutors agreed.

Cross claimed he hit his wife during a New Year's Eve argument about her drinking problem. Cross said he hopes the yoga will also help him lose weight.

Standley, who is known for his creative sentencing, has in the past ordered dozens of people convicted of drunken driving to collect newspaper clippings about the crime.

1. Namaste, Dammit!
LOL!

I'm sorry this couple has problems, but this makes me chuckle. Hooray for the judge!

4. Patience and discipline for starters
the guy can take the hint ... or not. But the judge is giving him a chance to clean up his act. Whether his wife has a drinking problem is irrelevant, he shouldn't have slapped her period.

8. Please reread my post
I said YOGI not YOGA

(like in Yogi Berra, NY Yankee catcher)

I am not advocating violence of any sort against women. I am ridiculing this moronic excuse for a judge.

5. Vipasana is used widely for rehabilitating prisoners
globally.

It may not be very common but it IS used in many places and is starting to get some interest in the United States.

Anger management is nothiung but controlling one's emotions. Yoga is controlling one's mind and body. It is the same thing.

Wise judge. Yoga therapy would help everyone IMHO.

6. I love creative sentencing. Some work, some don't.
But what we've been doing does not seem to work for the most part.
