Thai court approves extradition of Sullivan

By BETH WARREN and MICK ELMORE
Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Palm Beach, Fla., multimillionaire James Sullivan will return to the United States to stand trial in a Georgia court in the 1987 murder of his estranged wife in Atlanta, the Thai Supreme Court ruled Friday, rejecting Sullivan's final appeal to avoid extradition.

Sullivan, a fugitive living for years in anonymity on the Thai coast until his arrest in 2002, probably will be flown to Atlanta within 15 days, said Brian Pearce, a federal prosecutor from Atlanta on temporary assignment at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.

Clad in orange prison fatigues, Sullivan appeared in a Thai courtroom with an attorney this morning to hear the ruling read aloud by a justice. The session was closed to the public, but Sullivan was visible in a courtroom window. He blew kisses to girlfriend Chongwattana Reynolds, who waited outside, and gave her a thumbs down when the verdict was announced.

Authorities raided a beachside condo in July 2002 and arrested Sullivan, who was living lavishly. He has remained in Thai jails since while fighting extradition.

1. Wow, I remember this case when I was living in Atlanta years ago...
Justice delayed is still justice served? I hope....RIP Mrs. Sullivan.

5. Alas
However, there's every chance that the next time zoos can't get their male pandas interested, Sullivan will be called in as the fluffer. ;-)
