Report: Meijer To Cut About 3,000 Jobs (Michigan)
There may be more problems for grocery stores in Michigan after Local 4 learned that Meijer will cut nearly 3,000 jobs.

The Grand Rapids headquartered retailer plans to cut department manager positions in all 158 stores in five states, according to Business Editor Rod Meloni.

An efficiency consultant hired by the company last year advised the retailer that one manager could handle three departments. Meijer cut about 350 administrative jobs back in September with advice from the same consultant.

Local 4 learned that Meijer had record-breaking sales this holiday season, but the retailer believes that it's best to make cuts while
in a position of strength, as opposed to a retailer like Farmer Jack, who has been forced to close some of its stores because of financial troubles, the station reported.

14. Losing 3 times the jobs Bush's Economy created in ALL December !
Bush's economy created a paltry 1,000 jobs in December by their own statistics. ( and we know how they cook numbers)

Here, one employer's layoffs in one state triple negatively that number. That is miserably pathetic. Of course just driving by employee parking lots that were packed the day Clinton left office, and seeing them 1/3 full now should tell most people the truth...Talk about that to people you know. Ask them what was the last thing that happened at their place of employment. Was the last thing that happened massive layoffs or massive hirings ? How full is their parking lot at work compared to the day Clinto left office. Now ask them who is better for the jobs economy for working people like you and me?

The answer is so obvious.

6. Its all over the news here people freaking out
Wal Mart is outbuying them, and there's no more jobs around. Everything is going to hell in a handbasket. Watch crime go up. Its going to get pretty bad folks, cause the social services here have run dry....and the weather is beyond belief..gas prices are sky high, no one can afford anything. We have downsized to a couple rooms to live in and turned everything off we dont need or use and we arent buying anything.
Its bad out there. I talked to my mother and my sister is on her way to a food pantry or the kids dont get fed. Its real bad out there.

7. Yes, it's really bad in GR
as far as job losses. Electrolux also announced it is closing up their plant and moving it to Mexico...despite concessions from the state to help. It seems every day we get a new announcement of more job losses.

12. I live in Michigan
and shop at Meijer. I believe their employees are unionized. I'm sure the repugs would favor us shopping at Wal-Mart where the employees aren't union and make peanuts. I don't think there are too many people around here who buy the b/s that the economy is "surging/blistering". My relatives live in Ohio and they all say that no one there is buying it either.

SOTU was on Tuesday.

How much more of Bush's economy can the people of Michigan take?
