"Kansas political leaders will talk to Boeing Co.' s top executive today about a possible sale of its Wichita plant that a Seattle newspaper says is under consideration and that Wall Street analysts say would make sense.
Before a trip to Wichita late today, Boeing chief executive Harry Stonecipher is scheduled to speak by telephone with Sens. Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback, Rep. Todd Tiahrt and Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.
EDIT
Boeing officials are mum about whether the company wants to sell the sprawling, 75-year-old Wichita factory -- its second-largest commercial aircraft plant. Wall Street analysts agreed Monday that such a sale is plausible. Some said it was likely, and one even called it inevitable.
EDIT
Raytheon Aircraft has made it clear that by 2006 it wants to do only the final assembly of its aircraft. It is currently working on sending its wire-harness work to a company in Mexico. Cessna Aircraft also has said it is studying whether to send more work outside its plant."
