Embattled (Republican) Rep. Young Touts Wrong Group in an Ad
Source: WSJ

Embattled Alaska Republican Rep. Don Young is airing a radio ad in his home state erroneously touting an endorsement from Taxpayers for Common Sense—one of his harshest critics. The nonpartisan watchdog group has repeatedly bashed Young’s affinity for pork-barrel projects funded by earmarks.

The group is planning a letter to Young’s campaign Friday asking him to take it off the air. A spokesman for Young’s campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.

In the ad, Young responds to attacks from opponent Sean Parnell, who he faces in a competitive Aug. 26 Republican primary. Parnell was endorsed in early June by the antitax group Club for Growth, which said at the time that Young “symbolizes much of what has gone wrong with the Republican Party today.” The group has also been spending money to get Parnell elected.

Young says in the ad that Club for Growth is a group that “opposes projects that benefit Alaska” which isn’t entirely truthful—the group opposes government funded projects everywhere.

...

The snag? Young was never presented any such award from Taxpayers for Common Sense. Rather, in late June, Young put out a press release touting an award from another conservative group, Americans for Tax Reform, headed by Grover Norquist, who said Young has “proven to be a hero” in fighting tax hikes.

1. Maybe Grover will be so offended he'll go drown himself in his bathtub.
