Carbon Is Building Up in Atmosphere Faster Than Predicted
Source: Washington Post

The rise in global carbon dioxide emissions last year outpaced international researchers' most dire projections, according to figures being released today, as human-generated greenhouse gases continued to build up in the atmosphere despite international agreements and national policies aimed at curbing climate change.

In 2007, carbon released from burning fossil fuels and producing cement increased 2.9 percent over that released in 2006, to a total of 8.47 gigatons, or billions of metric tons, according to the Australia-based Global Carbon Project, an international consortium of scientists that tracks emissions. This output is at the very high end of scenarios outlined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and could translate into a global temperature rise of more than 11 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the century, according to the panel's estimates.

"In a sense, it's a reality check," said Corinne Le Quéré, a professor at the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia and a researcher with the British Antarctic Survey. "This is an extremely large number. The emissions are increasing at a rate that's faster than what the IPCC has used."

5. I know how we can turn all cities green next spring
Legalize home cultivation of cannabis and you we have six foot tall green plants on fire escapes, on balconies, on roofs, in backyards etc. all over the place. Probably one house out of five. I plant in the woods and year after year they are taken by the cops, ripped up by hunters, etc. At any rate I think cannabis would really green up our cities.

2. But but but we have a banking crisis, the tv machine told me so, who cares about the planet???
at the end of the day as we all gasp for air and burn to a crisp, we will say to ourselves, "if I only invested wisely".

3. I had a nightmare
for real that woke me up this morning. It was of Palin going into a back room with Biden and some others and someone was saying "I think we can open Anwar to drilling now because Biden is now more pliable in regards to it". I sat straight up in bed and have been distressed all morning. I never ever have nightmares. I think it was just the idea that Palin is sooo violent and stupid and irrational in regards to the planet crisis. Biden represented good being forced to do what she wanted. It was a really horrible and sick dream.

4. Like someone said in another link, she's a colossal narcissist.
Frankly, I'm not to worried about ANWAR. I think it's a no go. Why? because of the colossal investment it will take to get the first drop out of the ground. in those regions of the world, there is roughly only 3 months out of the year where a company could actually do any work.

however, that doesn't mean we won't drill off shore, that worries me a lot more.
